This is common in Mr. Coffee models. Depending on the age of yours, either take it back if it's under warranty, depending on your warranty statement in the book. Some you take it back to the store where you purchased it or you have to ship it to the manufacturer prepaid. If it's out of warranty, buy a new one.

The urn stops perking after about three minutes - coffee is not brewed

2 points of failure

A) Heater Element - Open Circuit or Wire Broken (Corrosion at crimp(s),

B) OVER Temp Thermostat OVERLOAD.

IF the element does not get hot enough (The amount of power (measured in Watts) consumed is not close to the Nameplate rating, then the element is weakening inside.

IF it stays cold, then it is gone completely, however you indicate that after 3 minutes (the usual time??) the brewing stops.

MOST designs have a water heater fused to a "Hotplate" type warming pad.

There are two temperature sensitive valves built into the flow of water. A Low Temp that closes when the water is about 30c. A HIGH temp valve that opens at 70C. Between the two valves, the water gets heated to 90C then pumps over the drip basket.

Along the way, is an OVER TEMP that trips at 105C, and stops the heater function (After the coffee is brewed, and the reservoir is empty.)

Back right hotplate getting hot when oven on

That hole is most likely a vent for oven where some heat escapes.

Does not brew coffee

There is an overheat protection link under the hotplate. It is probably burnt open. murf427

Coffee not brewing

This machine depends on heat to move the water to the top. The heating element, or thermal fuse, or burned contacts are the usual suspects. The warmer under the coffee pot is not part of the coffee making process. It is repairable.

Krups Coffee pot stopped brewing after programming

OH Yeah!
That is the number one failure in these machines. (owned four of them)
The problem is one or both of the "twin" thermal fuses or the thermostat for water
heating and hotplate,( one in the same) has gone open. I have tried for a long time to locate correct replacement parts to no avail. I would STRONGLY not recommend trying to bypass as these are not only controls but a safety feature as well. I was lucky a wile back and found one without a carafe at a garage sale. used it for parts, now those have failed also. Really miss them. If I ever find a source for parts I will post it here with replacement procedure.

Won't brew.

It is highly likely the thermal fuse to the hotplate is blown.
you will have to open the unit and look for a small silver bullet shaped with a wire on each end, one end is pointed and has what looks like colored plastic.
you will have to have ohmmeter to read continuity through it . it will show as a shorted when working and open when it is dead.
these are easy to find but the correct temp rating needs to be the same or it may not blow when needed to prevent a counter fire.
The fuse is clamped to the wiring with brass because solder will degrade over heat and time.

Sorry to hear.  when mine did this you had to cycle the on button from off-auto-on wait 6 sec and do it again and again till brewed.  Took about 10 min to brew the pot.  seems there is something wrong with the brew heater or thermal switch.  my hotplate got hot but would not brew.
Called Presto and they said its discontinued.  They also said they just put their name on the product and never carried or serviced this model.  If they had a return they would just give a new one but since it is discontinued they cant even do that.  If you have a costco near buy you can take it back as a gift and they sold it for 35.00.  If its under a year old Presto will give you 1/3 the price towards another Presto product.  yay.
