Question about Kenmore 73502 / 73504 / 73509 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Kenmore Trio 596.735073200 Frig & Freezer aren't working

Neither my refrigerator or freezer are cooling. I noticed last night that everything in the freezer was pretty much melted. I cleaned the condenser coil in front with vacuum {much much dog hair - I'm ashamed to admit} and then pulled it out and vacuumed the back fan outlet grille. I read your comments about evap fan motor failures on these models. I can't find an electronic board or a tech sheet. I took off the bottom plate in the back of the unit and I honestly don't know what I'm looking at and the manual doesn't help. However, when I plug it in, I can see the fan is runnning. Any ideas??

My temp on the refrigerator is 77 and the freezer is 10. I tried to clean the coils but how do you really reach them. I did vacum behind the unit and under the unit. But at this point I have seen no change. Any ideas about really getting to the coils, I took I a few screws but no real access.

Behind the removable toe plate at the bottom front there is a wire grill condenser. Using you vacuum cleaner and crevasse tool clean it out as best you can. Sometimes it helps to blow out this area with compressed air.

Next look for frost on the back wall of the freezer section. If there is frost you have a defrost system problem. Let me know what you find.

Refrigerator starts cooling mainly when I open the door

Put a thermometer in both the freezer and the fridge. Fridge should be around 40F if not a little lower, but should stay above 30F.

Freezer should be just below 30.

I have a Kenmore refrigerator not cooling

You will need to replace the heating element, if it looks blacken, then it's not good. When good, it's a clear glass tubing with a coil that heats up. Call Sears for parts.

The fan that blows cold air from the freezer to cool the refrigerator is not working. If your a little handy with tools its an easy fix. Its located in the freezer. Open your freezer door take off the steel panel at the back of the inside of the freezer. After you remove the panel you will see the fan the blows the cold air up to the Frig. A quick trip to a local appliance store for a new fan with do the trick. Put in the new fan 100% fixed even better than new because the orginal part is defective Kenmore should have recalled them. I have the same frig and its been perfect since I repaced my failed fan.
