Question about Panasonic PT-53TW53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

HELP! Should I buy this model for $200

Saw ad on craigslist for this tv. However, it stated that the convergence was off from moving the tv from the downstairs to the upstairs, but it is still watchable and they watch it everyday. The owner said that the problem could be simply fixed via remote but he lost his. He said that all you have to be is order a new remote and fix it since you can't fix it from the tv buttons. If it is a the convergence amplifer chip thing is it a easy fix? Need some advice before purchase. Thanks. jml

It sounds like it maybe the convergence ICs or it could just need adjustment from moving. If it does need new ICs they are STK392-110 and you can get replacement iCs and free instalation instructions at the following link.

Must know the model number and what alignment you have tried. If the picture shows misregistration and the convergence adjustments are not bringing it back into alignment the most likely scenario is the convergence circuitry has failed. This calls for a repair either by using a repair kit (you can buy them online for around $60 to $80 depending on the model) or technician repair service which is generally $200 to $300 area.

Red color seems to jump from the rest of the colors about 2'' Mitsubishi 65'' widescreen model ws-65819

Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s)

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

The green color is off. I am thinking that it is the auto convergence. I want to try to fix it my self (I love to do these kind of things) but I do not want to buy the wrong part.

To Find the IC's look for 1 or 2 large (4in x4inx1in) aluminium heat sinks. the part # is labelled on the face of the IC itself

Toshiba rear screen projection tv theaterview colors wavey? It no longer is visible, the colors are separated

1.) It sounds like you have a convergence problem; in the customer menu with the original Toshiba remote select convergence--if blue or red will NOT move in some direction you have a bad convergence IC.

2.) This set uses 2 STK-392-110 convergence chips; they and any open resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

3.) If you are able to do this repair yourself you can save a lot of money--Most TV shops will charge 300-400 for this type of repair on this set.

4.) If you cannot do the repair yourself look in your area--now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---if they say it "has to go to shop" keep looking----almost any good tech can do this repair in your home in about an hour--I have done hundreds of them here and charge 200-250 total depending on brand and model.

5.) I am here to help people and if you have questions or need advice let me know--the two chips this set uses you can buy on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping.

I do this here for free, so if this information has helped you give me a vote here---let me know by replying here if you need more help.

If the convergence on one or more color does not align using the convergence setup procedure, that means that one or more convergence ICs must be replaced, that is the reason why you get bad picture.

That means that the convergence ICs are bad and must be replaced, the job is about $200/$300.

Convergence in Toshiba 43a62 projection tv

its not likely to have come un soldered or loose, a lot of times when you move a big screen they have to be reconverged. not because of damage but because of the move in general...i would call a shop and have them come out and re converge it. that what it will take to get it done right

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
