Best solution to improve signal strength is with an antenna other than the simple rod antenna.
The rod antenna is really only useful for very close stations and does not work well under most conditions, especially if you are on the move while using it.

Even a simple portable rabbit ears antenna can make a big difference.
Believe it or not, I have used a rabbit ear from the local dollar store to receive much better signals than with the rod antenna.
If you are using the Haier in a home, you might try purchasing an inexpensive old-school antenna from solid signal or radio shack. I set mine on a plastic garbage can in the attic and ran a 100 foot coax cable down to my old cable wire outlet.
You can also buy amplified antennas which look good and mount on the wall or near a window for apartment dwellers.
You might also try making your own HD antenna out of coat hangers and a piece of wood.

I bought aRCA air ultra thin multi directional indoor HDTV antenna,I cant get this to work with my tv, a 32mf330b/f7 no matter what I do no matter how many times I run the autoprogram, can You help.

Indoor aerials are exclusively for areas with a strong signal and the way digital tv works a good signal is essential.

I expect the signal where the aerial is sited has a poor signal strength and a high gain outdoor aerial will be needed. I suggest you have a look around and check what the neighbours are doing but bear in mind the signal strength in built up and fringe areas can be the radio equivalent of micro climates where moving a few yards in any direction and you could either be freezing or growing pineapples.

If you can take your tv to a good aerial and do a retune and store the found channels you might be lucky and discover your indoor aerial might receive a few channels well enough for viewing.

I have a nevdia 42" tv. Won't pick up all the air channels

That is a matter of the signal strength, so there is really no fix but to get a better signal.

ECM error message

Noise in the phone line, or low signal strength during fax transmission can result in fax failures. Noise or poor signal strength can cause a partial or complete loss of fax information during transmission. When Error Correction Mode (ECM) is on, the receiving fax machine checks the fax information for errors during reception. If the receiving fax machine detects an error, the receiving fax requests that the sending fax resend the information. Resending all or part of the information can make transmission times longer, but helps improve the quality of the received fax.
If the phone line quality or signal strength is extremely poor, sending a fax can fail. Turning off ECM can improve the ability of the product to send a fax successfully when the phone line quality is poor. However, the image quality of the received fax might be poor.
If ECM must be off to send faxes successfully, have the telephone service provider check the phone line quality. For an HP Fax, turning off ECM from the control panel does not necessarily mean that fax transmission will not use ECM. Fax products use ECM as follows.
  • All faxes sent in color use ECM.
  • All faxes sent at the highest transmission speed use ECM.
  • The ECM setting affects only sent faxes, not received faxes.
Enabling or disabling Error correction mode (ECM)
  1. On the product control panel, press the Menu button (c01743394.gif ).
  2. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select Basic Fax , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ).
  3. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select ECM Mode , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ).
  4. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select On or Off , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ) to confirm the setting.
  5. Press the Back button (c01496476.gif ) twice to return to the main screen.

Cant get wifi unless I am a couple of inches from router. All other wifi devices work perfectly. I even downloaded the latest driver directly from Intel and problem still exists.

Having a wireless Internet signal in your home allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection without having to run lengths of Ethernet cable to each device. Given that the wireless network is transmitted over the air, the consistency of your Internet connection depends on the strength of the wireless signal. If wireless signal strength is not strong enough to give you a consistent Internet connection, there are a few simple steps for finding the problem and improving your signal strength.

Reset all devices. The majority of Internet issues, including poor wireless signal strength, are very often solved by a simple power cycle of all the devices in the network. Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and remove them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug the power to that device). Leave them unplugged for a full 30 seconds, plug them back in and restart your computer. When your computer fully reboots, check your wireless signal strength to see if it has improved. If it has not, further troubleshooting is required. Move your computer closer to your router, or your router closer to your computer. Wireless routers do not have unlimited range. One reason your computer may be getting a weak signal strength from your wireless network could be because your computer is simply outside of the router's range. Typically, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will install your modem in one specific location in the house and the modem will not work at other locations, so moving the modem or modem/router combination may not be a possibility. If this is the case, you may need to move the computer to a location that is within the range of the wireless router's broadcast. If you still get poor signal strength, your router may be experiencing a malfunction. Contact the technical support department of your router manufacturer. Router malfunctions often are not the result of a bad or broken router, but of something much simpler, such as the router's needing a firmware upgrade or an incorrect setting on the router's internal setup. If your router manufacturer is unable to improve your wireless signal strength, it may be time to purchase a new router. Purchase a new router. Wireless routers are priced in part based on how widely their wireless signal broadcasts (in other words, the more expensive the router you buy, the larger a wireless signal the router will broadcast). Included in the packaging of each wireless router is the approximated range, in square footage, of that router's wireless network. A good rule of thumb is to know the square footage of your house and buy a router that can accommodate that square footage. That way, as long as the router is functioning properly, you will have strong wireless signal strength throughout your entire home.

Hi,

If your kids laptops are getting good signal strength then, its the problem with your laptop. You nmay have to upgrade your wireless adapter to N standard. The one which you have might be a b/g standard adapter. Check with your sony to upgrade the wireless adapter.

Thanks & Regards,

I can not connect to the internet but it still has strong signal strength. It will only connect to the internet when I am right next to the router. Why is this happening and what should I do?

One thing to keep in mind is that there are several different router/adapter models, types, and signal strengths. If your house/apartment is older, it may have poor wire insulation. This would create large electromagnetic interference for your wireless signal. This can also happen with large appliances such as a refridgerator or generator. Wireless also has diminished returns when passing through concrete or walls made with thick/heavy material.

You may try moving the router to a different, more central portion of your residence to see if the signal improves in all areas. Try to determine which direction, from the router, it tends to have the lowest signal strength and determine what may be causing the loss of signal strength.

Aside from that, if possible test with a different router/wireless adapter. You can accomplish this by having a friend visit you with their laptop or visiting a friend's wireless network and seeing if you have the same problem. The later of that advice applies to wireless hot spots like Starbucks or McDonalds/Dairy Queen.
