Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

I cleaned my GE Momogram Ice Maker with the Nickel Safe Ice Machine Cleaner by Nu-Calgon and then lightly sprayed the interior with a very mild water/bleach solution to reach the mildow that I couldn't reach. After I wiped off the water/bleach and/or let it dry, I restarted the Ice Maker. The machine now is not making ice. It's running - the water reservoir fills with water, the grid that cuts the ice is warm, the metal sheet that the water usually goes down to freeze is icy cold, the engine sounds normal. However, whenever the tube is suppose to suction up the water to be turned into ice, nothing is being sucked up. The tube in the front (the 5" one you can take off and clean) is on normally. I have felt as best as I could the one in the back and it seems connected. What went wrong? Is there something else I can check to fix this? Thanks for helping.

You have a water pump problem. The pump that circulates the water while the ice is being made is not running. If it ran before the cleaning process and did not run after there is a possibility that a chunk of calcium became lodged in the pump impeller. Try repeating the water system cleaning. The cleaner may dissolve what is stopping the impeller from turning.

Kitchen aid clean light keeps on red and machine doesnot make ice

Hi,

This unit has a max ice run counter in the software, so after 500 cycles this unit requires you to run a clean cycle completely. After this is completed, it will rest and allow you to produce ice again, use nickel safe cleaner to do this or just run clean cycle without cleaner if unit is already clean. This cycle should last about an hour or so. Good Luck

Makes ice for 3 cycles then stops running. Can turn off then on again to make more ice for a couple more cycles.

check the cycle time for a batch of ice. should take around 15 minutes to freeze and then you will hear the harvest cycle kick in. If the harvest cycle takes 3 minutes or more that is your problem. You will need to get a hold of NICKEL SAFE ICE MACHINE CLEANER. DO NOT use CLR or any kind of cleaner other than NICKEL SAFE ICE MACHINE CLEANER. If the ice doesn't fall off of the plate in about 90 seconds either the plate is dirty or the nickel plating has come off. There is a failsafe shut down if the unit takes more than 60 minutes to freeze or more than 3 minutes to harvest 3 consecutive times. The cleaning instructions should be inside of one of the covers. If not it's available online.

How often should you clean the ice maker?

it depends on the quality of water in your water supply. If you get scale buildup easily, you need to descale and sanitize it as often as each month, if scale buildup is minimal, descale and sanitized every 6 monthes. I always nickel safe scale remover and calgon sanitizer. If in doubt, consult the manufactures recommendations.

CLR will work great, just rinse the ice maker very well after cleaning the calcium deposits and throw out the first few batches or bins of ice produced after the cleaning process. Good luck !

Kenmore elite (106.53606202) ice maker will not dispense ice

When you push the ice dispensing lever, you should be able to hear the micro-switch clicking. If no click, the switch is faulty. The auger motor which is activated by the lever could also be faulty. This is the motor that causes the auger in the ice bucket to rotate one way for crushed ice and the other way for cubes. The auger could also be jammed. Try switching between crushed and cubes to unjam the auger. Empty the ice bucket and start again.
