Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

I cleaned my GE Momogram Ice Maker with the Nickel Safe Ice Machine Cleaner by Nu-Calgon and then lightly sprayed the interior with a very mild water/bleach solution to reach the mildow that I couldn't reach. After I wiped off the water/bleach and/or let it dry, I restarted the Ice Maker. The machine now is not making ice. It's running - the water reservoir fills with water, the grid that cuts the ice is warm, the metal sheet that the water usually goes down to freeze is icy cold, the engine sounds normal. However, whenever the tube is suppose to suction up the water to be turned into ice, nothing is being sucked up. The tube in the front (the 5" one you can take off and clean) is on normally. I have felt as best as I could the one in the back and it seems connected. What went wrong? Is there something else I can check to fix this? Thanks for helping.

You have a water pump problem. The pump that circulates the water while the ice is being made is not running. If it ran before the cleaning process and did not run after there is a possibility that a chunk of calcium became lodged in the pump impeller. Try repeating the water system cleaning. The cleaner may dissolve what is stopping the impeller from turning.

RS22AQXGW03 needs icemaker cleaned

Hello. Refrigerator manufacturers do not recommend any cleaner for use on their ice makers molds other then wiping the surface of the ice maker with a mild detergent. The coating on the mold can be damaged with caustic chemicals. If you are needing to clean the cube mold on this ice maker because it is flaking or has a mineral buildup on it, the best course of action is to replace the icemaker. Here is one that is fairly inexpensive.

How can I clean my GE TFX15JR/TFX22JR ice maker? It was bought used and ice maker has rust in it and it produces ice with mold

If the icemaker is rusty and moldy it should be replaced. The part of the icemaker that forms the cubes should be non stick coated---sort of a brown color coating. Most replacement icemakers cost around $100. but for health reasons it may be wort it in the long run. If you want to try and clean it try a mild solution of water and bleach. Should be info on line for the proper mixture to clean items safely. Usually 2 screws and a plug to take out the icemaker.

GE Icemaker has water flowing over evaporator plate, but no ice.

Larry the parts for that machine are expensive so lets hope it is a start relay and overload. I need you to run the thing just enough to see if the compressor is getting hot on its top. Can you unplug the power and feel the top of the compressor for me? Warm, Hot? Too hot to keep hand there? I need to know about the compressor to see if it is trying to start. With the power disconnected I want you to examine both sides of the main control board=> WR55X10020 Main Control Board If you would like me to help you out here please let me know, Thanks John Tripp Appliance 911

How often should you clean the ice maker?

it depends on the quality of water in your water supply. If you get scale buildup easily, you need to descale and sanitize it as often as each month, if scale buildup is minimal, descale and sanitized every 6 monthes. I always nickel safe scale remover and calgon sanitizer. If in doubt, consult the manufactures recommendations.

Hi, evaporator may need to be cleaned with a nickel safe - phosphoric and /or citric acid cleaner. Scale build-up on evaporator from water constantly flowing across it will prevent the sheet of ice from releasing. A mild scotch-brite cleaning pad with mild force to remove scale from the evaporator may also work. Follow up by running clean cycle to remove all dirt and contaminants from ice collection compartment.

Take care

Our model number is the GSS25JEPA and the ice in the ice machine leaves a after taste seems like it is a chemical taste and strange smell on the ice that the machine makes. I am not sure what to do.

I would suspect the water supply to the refrigerator. After it has sat without use over night at least, turn the water off and open the fill line at the refrigerator and place it in a clean container. Turn the water on gently for a very short time then check what you have in the container. More then likely it will contain what you are saying is in the ice. If not then you need to thoroughly clean the freezer and ice maker, my preference is to use a mild soap and bleach solution. The bleach would kill any mold that may be present.
Good Luck,

How do you clean an IceMagic Ice Maker

Since chemicals are a bad idea and could contaminate the ice, I think this may be a task for a steam cleaner like scunci or shark. Use a clean cloth with a touch of dish detergent and get the reachable parts. then wipe down with hot wet cloth followed by a dry one. Unplug while cleaning the mechanical part to be safe.

Kenmore elite (106.53606202) ice maker will not dispense ice

When you push the ice dispensing lever, you should be able to hear the micro-switch clicking. If no click, the switch is faulty. The auger motor which is activated by the lever could also be faulty. This is the motor that causes the auger in the ice bucket to rotate one way for crushed ice and the other way for cubes. The auger could also be jammed. Try switching between crushed and cubes to unjam the auger. Empty the ice bucket and start again.
