Pilot light goes out when you turn it down to just one burner

From what you described, it may be a case of turning the control knob down to far and it's turning the pilot light OFF.

Other causes:
1. Unit needs cleaning and servicing due to a dust and lint build up inside the heater.
2. ODS Pilot Sensor is partially clogged.
3. Low gas pressure.
4. Thermocouple is failing and needs to be replaced.

In case you have misplaced the Owners Manual for this model heater, I have included a link to it. You can download and print the manual for future reference.

In addition, I you want to undertake the cleaning and servicing process, I have also included a link to a "How to Clean the Pilot Assembly" demonstration.

You model heater uses the Copreci Pilot Assembly.

Hope this helps you. Please let me know. Thanks!

The flame is orange and I noticed it was running high and when we leave it on one burner it wants to shut off. I have dusted and cleaned it and it didn't improve it. Now when we go to light it usually...

Sounds like thermocouple is part of the problem as it relates to lighting the heater. Overtime, they do become pitted or corroded and should be replaced. As far as the orange flame when running on high is concerned, it sounds like the air intake valve on the burner is partially clogged with dust or lint. I realize you said, "I have dusted and cleaned it and it didn't improve it" But, if you didn't take the front of the heater cabinet off and cleaned all if the interior (including the burners, the plaques, the pilot and the interior walls of the cabinet), your cleaning wasn't sufficient. A Shop Vac with a hose, brush attachment and crevice tool works real well to help you accomplish this. Also, a can of compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) will aid you in cleaning the pilot orifice and the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS). To further assist you, I have included a link to your Owners Manual (in case you have misplaced yours) that you can download and print for future reference.Be sure the heater is cool and the gas has been turned off to the heater, before attempting to clean the heater.

Yes, click on the following link and it will take you to Master Distributors. They stock DESA/Vanguard parts. Sorry that you'll have to pay for something that was supposed to come standard with the heater. http://www.vanguardheaters.com/

Control knob gets too warm and starts to melt/losen from shaft.

I don't know how old your heater is, but from what you have described, sounds like a run-a-way burner. In other words, the burner has failed and is producing to high a flame height. Thus, overheating the metal cabinet and causing the control knob shaft and knob to become extremely hot.

Although this heater has a stainless steel tube type burner, It is not beyond the possibility that the burner has rusted out somewhere along the burner tube and flames are shooting out in the wrong place(s). This could be especially true, if the heater was not cleaned and serviced on at least an annual basis.

The only way to check this out is by dismantling the heater cabinet, to expose all of the internal workings. It is not difficult to os, just be sure to turn the gas line to heater OFF and let it cool.

Remove the sheet metal screws along the outer 4 sides of the heater and the cabinet's front can be removed. Check the burner and it's gas connections carefully, to find any degradation that may have occurred, as well as any char marks inside the cabinet.

I have provided a link to your heater's Owners Manual, which should be of more help. You can download and print it if your so desire.

Until this problem is solved, it would be in your best interest to stop using the heater all together.

Hope this helps you find the problem and solve it.

The center ceramic segment does not glow red like the outside ones, it stays more blue, is there a flame adjustment?

No, no flame adjustment, but that section of the burner, behind the plaque may be clogged. If you don't service your heater at least annually or have it serviced annually, more than likely that's the problem. Also, check the condition of the plaque in question. Depending on the age of the heater, it may simply be cracked or worn out.

If you discover it needs replacement you can order one from FMI (the company that bought part of DESA International after the bankrupted) by calling 868-328-6951, then press 2.. You will need to have the Model # & Serial # of your heater when you call.

Yellow gas . cleaned burner which is made by Worgas. Still yellow tipped

yellow flame is caused by low o2. so open air shutter or lower gas input. that said if flame is equal across burner.a normal gas pressure to the burner is 3.5 " w.c. there should be a test port on outlet side of valve. the name plate will tell you what the pressure should be.

Flame on infrared wall heater ceramic burners burns blue on the surface and the burners no longer turn red or only partially turn red. I have taken the gas lines loose from the bottom of the burners and...

Check the gas line pressure before the heater then after the regulator. It sounds as if you are not getting sufficient gas pressure to the burners. Two possibilities bad regulator and or bad gas valve! Sorry I can not be absolutely sure on this one you can try blowing the ceramic burners with a compressor this will clean them rite out.

sounds like when you blew heater out with air compressor you moved brick so flame isn't hitting bottom of brick like they should. You should try and put brick back on top of flame so that you don't get to much heat on the refractory of the heater. The refractory will take the heat for awhile then refractory will start to break down. Then you will either have to install new refractory or replace heater
