The fridge cools with the cooling coils . Then air is moved over the coils and circulated through the fridge side by a small blower or fan. The problem arises when the air is not circulated for some reason.

The reasons the air is not moving is usually two reasons

  1. The fan or blower has failed.
  2. The coil is covered over with ice and blocks the air flow.

The first reason is pretty simple to fix, you simply replace the air circulator and things are good again.
The second reason can be :-
1.The timing device that runs the defrost cycle of the refrigerator is defective.
2.The heater coil that melts the water is shorted or not working

Usually the first thing to check is the heater coil. If there is resistance through the coil then most likely it is still good.
The timing device can be an advanced defrost control board or a mechanical timing device.
If the heater coil checks out to be good then the problem should be the timer.

In most cases, unplug the refrigerator and allow it to defrost on it's own .That will melt the ice and it will work again after restarting it. but still check for few days or weeks if it ices up to the point where it will not work again.if the problem comes again , then as explained above:--

The problem can usually be traced to one of three things.
  1. The fan or blower
  2. The timer device
  3. The electric heater coil
By checking these parts you can isolate your problem and fix it by replacing the faulty part. you can buy this parts by clicking the partsshoplink:-- partsshoplink
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Have a kenmore refrigerator freezer works but not refrigerator

You mean "How to Fix a Kenmore Refrigerator That Is Not Cold But the Freezer Is Good?"

Well this what i say,
Kenmore combination refrigerator and freezers combine the short- and long-term food storage options in a single unit. There are some occasions when the refrigerator compartment might appear to be malfunctioning while the freezer box stays cool. Ruling out these occasions ensures you have done everything you can to correct the problem before calling for a technician if necessary.

1.Verify that the temperature controls for the refrigerator compartment are properly configured. Tap the "^" or "v" buttons beside the refrigerator's LCD temperature display until "38," the ideal temperature, appears. The compartment could have been set too warm. Allow 24 hours for the the appliance to reach 38 degrees Fahrenheit.

2 Check that the refrigerator compartment door closes completely, objects inside the appliance could be holding the door ajar. When cool air is allowed to escape, the internal temperature rises. Cracked, holed or corroded door seals may also raise the refrigerator temperature.

3 Change how you use the refrigerator compartment; storing hot or warm food strains the appliance and causes a rise in internal temperatures. Do not prop open the door or leave it ajar for more than a few seconds at a time for the reasons outlined in Step 2.

4 Contact Kenmore if the refrigerator compartment remains too warm for your food. There may be a problem with the motor or any one of the other parts that regulate the temperature

I have a Kenmore 106 77292790 Top-Mount Refrigerator. I noticed the temperature was rising in both the refrigerator and the freezer. I checked various websites which implied the problem might be the...

You said you replaced the timer and have the thermostat on order, but you didn't say if you had checked the heater element

Heater
PART NUMBER: 2166124

Substitution: 2315530

Since those are the three components of the defrost system! If the timer and thermostat both work perfectly, if the heater is open, there is nothing to defrost the evaporator coil.

You should also check your fan motor http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/4387244/0046/106/Model-10677292790/0582/0166000?keySuffixId=NA&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=10677292790&subCompDesc=Unit%20parts&brandDesc=KENMORE&modelDesc=REFRIGERATOR&blt=11 and make sure it is operational.

Refrig compartment does not cool on my new Kemore Frig.

Check and make sure the fan in the freezer is running. if not possible bad fan. If fan is running, check to see if you have any ice built up on back freezer wall. Normally frost type ice. If so, you may possibly have a bad defrost bi-metal mounted in the freezer section. Next could be a defrost timer control. Model number usally will help more in getting it right.

Kenmore refrig/freezer. freezer side is cold,

Check your condenser coil (should be below the refrig.). If dirty, you can clean it with a condenser brush from Home Depot or Lowe's. Turn the appliance off while cleaning. Be careful not to damage the refrigerant tubing (copper). If this doesn't solve the problem, then there may be an issue with the defrost thermostat, defrost heater(s) or the main temperature control assembly.

Contact an appliance service company.

The freezer is cold but the refrigerator section is not getting cold...it is not warm but not cold according to the dial settings

check the operation of the damper door between the freezer/refrigerator section which lets cold from freezer into refrige compartment for ice build-up which will cause damper door to not open fully and cool the refrige compartment,if this is the problem, unplug the door ans remove and let thaw then replace and try it then

New whirlpool refrig. freezer ok at 0 but refrig

The freezer get the first crack at cooling and combination units have a fan and adjustable vents to steal some of the cooling capacity for the refrigerator. The vent are normally located in the back of the refrigerator compartment and with these, you can balance the cooling capacity between freezer and fridge. I recommend you swap your thermometer back and forth until you get the balance you want; typically the freezer should be at 5 degrees F or below and the fridge at 35-40 degrees F. Adjusting the control for temperature and having the vents set to supply the cold air you want in each compartment should give you the range you want in each.

Refrig not cooling

Either the fan that blows cold air from the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment is burned out or the door/flap that seperates the compartments is stuck or the linkage connecting it to the fresh food temperature dial is stuck or broken.

The evaporator coils are in the freezer compartment and air is blown from the freezer compartment to cool the fresh food compartment. For some reason, air is not moving to fresh food compartment.

If the fan is running, it could be something as simple as Ice blocking to door between the freezer and fresh food compartment. I know modern refrigerators are self-defrosting, but that's only the evaporator coils, which are defrosted by a timer and a heater.

Ice can form on passageways inside the refrigerator, like the exit of the ice maker and in this case, on the door and 'tunnel' between the freezer and fresh food compartment. It's free, and doesn't take a lot of time, so try completely defrosting the unit before doing anything else.

BE SURE to keep the doors open, as odors can form as particles of food are allowed to defrost that may have been frozen in an ice pack for months or even years. Clean the interior of the refrigerator while you have everything out and reset the controls to normal settings.

If this doesn't help, there may be a mechanical problem with the air transfer control flap/door that will need to be fixed.

Hope this helps.
