Use a whole bottle of just straight bleach in machine and a cup of cascade dish washing liquid dont put clothes with it run threw a complete cycle do this twice then run load of whites aftwards just whites so you dont bleach clothes
this will kill the soap build up mold
fabric softner is the worst for creating smells try to avoid using fabric softner

It could be that there is a collection of hairs and other items causing the smell so clean out any filters you have on the machine, on mine there is a compartment at the base where you can clean out things like nails coins and other debris.
Alternatively make sure that your outlet hose is not too low. I think its possible that sometimes water can be siphoned back up the pipe into your washing machine if the conditions are right. eg a sink or similar nearby is running water and the water gets sucked back into your machine. You could fit a one way filter to prevent this.
Also take out your dispenser drawer and wash it out. it sometimes gets clogged up and starts to smell.

WF250 washing machine. Drum smells and clothes smell a bit too. have tried boil wash but no improvement. Washing machine is 6 years old and has no other faults. Can you help?

Due to mainly running low temp washes and bacteria building up in the hoses etc. (more prevalent if the machine is connected directly to the sink and not on a stand pipe) many machines will begin to smell, generally the smell is described as a damp flannel!. This can be transferred to the wash load if like myself you tend to put a load on before going to work and then removing when you get home. (The washing is clean but smells disgusting!!!)
Run a 90 degree cycle every 4 weeks with the machine empty except for two capfuls of baby sterilisng fluid (approx half a mug) If you buy stores own as it is cheaper than miltons. The first time you need to do this, run the cycle twice to be sure it was cleared out.
My machine is six years old and the first smelly signs were when it was about a year old, I do mainly 30 and 40 degree washes with and occasional 60.
I run the maintenance wash religiously ever 4 weeks and run a machine descaler such as oust thru every 4-6 months.
Hope this helps. Roni.
(ps don't be tempted to use bleach as it foams up and can cause more problems!!)

Hi my hotpoint washing machine is near 3 years old the last few weeks it is making a terrible noise when on spin only. \r\nthe noise is really loud but everything is washing and drying the same its just...

Sounds loike the main drum bearings have failed.
Spin the drum by hand from the front, and if it feels rough, or is rumbling or grating, then the main bearigs have failed.
Quite an expensive repair, unless it is covered by the Hotpoint 5 year parts guarantee, check with Hotpoint.

Does the hotpoint auarius have a filter that needs cleaning over the past two weeks or so the machine has started to smell the drum and soap drawer are both spotless

It does, but our loving friends at Hotpoint put the filter UNDER the drum and it can only be got to by drgging the machine out and attaching from the rear. The filter is the size of a large coffee mug, covered in rubber, directly below the cetrre of the drum and held in place by a large jubilee clip. Remove the clip, pull off the rubber boot and inside is a white conical "pot" with a ping pong ball in it. HOWEVER. Before you do this, if you are getting smells, first take 3 DISHWASHER tablets, throw them in an empty washer and put it on the hottest whites cotton program you can. Modern biological powders use bacteria to "eat" stains and when they get trapped in the machine, they can smell. Dishwasher tablets are made to wash and to KILL bacteria. It may help. Its a good thing to do anyway every now and again and it may save you a fruitless job dragging the machine out for no reason.

Hotpoint ultima wf840 drum jammed display saying error code f 02 can any 1 help

Error F-02 is a slow drain problem. Undo and remove the wide tapering pipe from the bottom of the drum to the pump. Inside you will find a non return ball valve, clean this and your problem should be solved

Terrible smell coming from our washing machine

remove bottom cover at back of machine, loosen large jubilee clip on hose between drum and pump. pull hose down and off, take out strainer basket and pull top off, clean top, ball and basket by running under tap. clean out hose with an old rag. reassemble strainer and put back into hose, in the correct position. fix hose back on to drum and tighten clip. run machine on a hot wash and all should be fine.

Put the machine on a service wash, (that is a very hot wash with a good quality washing POWDER and no cloths) allow the machine to complete the cycle. This may need to be repeated once a week or month until you are happy the smell has completely gone. If possibly I would avoid liquid soap in future. But that is just my opinion.

SMELLY WASHING MACHINE

A mouldy smell is often a sign of trapped residual water stagnating somewhere in the machine often just inside the door seal at the low point or in the filter.

Providing there is nothing like a old sock trapped in the pump or filter then there is not much you can do other than to dry the door seal and powder dispenser after use.

Please remember to rate this solution.

Smelly drum

run a load with no clothes, hot water and a gallon or two of bleach and less then 1 drop, very small amount of dish detergent. the dish detergent is used as  surfactant (makes the bleach stick to the interior walls)
run an extra rinse cycle to make sure you get all the bleach out before putting clothes in.

Terrible Smell

most of the time this smell can be taken care of by adding white vinager to the wash cycle through the soap dispenser whil e it is running. you may have to use quite a bit to do the trick, and even run it through several times. the second thing you can do is if you arent already, leave the door ajar when the machine is not in use so it can breath so to speak. hope this helps
