Question about Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook

LAN port of my laptop hp dv2000 is damaged. I understand from technicians that it is fused to motherboard and would be costly to replace. I am using USB to LAN converter plug. Is this the only solution? Thanks - JB Padhi

Aside from having the LAN port repair user a USB to LAN is the device thing to do here to save money because he repair for this type of problem will cost more.

Using a USB to LAN converter will also work just like a regular LAN card on a computer so that will be fine if you think about the performance.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output, usually on the back. If you get a picture it means the inverter board is bad, or the backlight behind the LCD display, check to make sure the round video cable is plugged into the motherboard. But, if the symptom is the same for both screens, the problem is the Video Graphics Card normally built into the motherboard. If the connector to the LCD is damaged that would explain the issue of no video.

What you need is to have the USB board replaced. It's a small part that costs $29.95 at Impact computers.I'm sorry to say , but I don't think your technician is teling you the truth; I see this a lot with repair shops and technicians.
Here's a link to pictures of your motherboard, and a link to the part you need, on the Impact computer website.
Your Motherboard:

Your USB board: This goes on your motherboard.

The problem you will still have is to disassemble the computer, remove the damaged USB board, solder a new one in,and re-assemble your computer. the labor for the repair is gonna cost you at least $100.

The Laptop Powerup no display in dv2000

Since you can view the laptop's output through VGA, it indicates that the issue lies with the laptop's LCD. As u mentioned, firstly the LCD become dull, and now it completely dead, suggest that the internal flat ribbon cables that connect the LCD to the motherboard of your laptop may have been damaged. This could happen sometimes after extensive use. Please get it checked with authourised technician. Do not experiemnt further, as this could make the situation worse. Cheers..
