How do I delete memory from an acer laptop left to me by a loved one who passed away last year without a floppy disc or a flash drive?!so it will be able to have new memory

The RAM on laptops and PCs is empty at switch on. If you want to clear the hdd use the uninstal function to remove programmes and select the files you don't want and delete them. Sometimes the restore partition is able to return the unit to factory default. That is explained in the user manual.

Slow processing

Acer brand laptop computers are designed to be small, portable units that are great for logging onto the Internet and checking email on the go.
As your Acer laptop ages, you may start to notice that it runs a little more sluggish than it used to. As Acer brand laptops run on the Windows operating system, luckily there are a few built-in tools that you can use to boost performance and generally speed up your machine without spending any additional money.

Use the "Disk Cleanup" tool. This tool is built into all Acer laptop computers and is accessible by clicking on "Start," then "Programs," then "Accessories," then "System Tools."
Disk Cleanup will remove any files left behind by programs on your Acer laptop computer that are no longer needed.
This can free up valuable hard drive space and generally give your Acer laptop computer a bit of a performance boost.
Use the "Disk Defragmenter" tool.
As with Disk Cleanup, this tool is built into all Acer laptop computers and is accessible through the same folder in the "Start" menu.
Disk Defragmenter physically rearranges the way bytes of data are stored on your hard drive, making it easier for your operating system to access pertinent information.
As it will take your computer less time to find the information you're requesting, your computer will speed up a great deal.

Get anything you can off of your hard drive. In order to keep the price down, Acer laptop computers tend to come with smaller hard drives than full sized laptops.
As a result, hard drive space can be very precious.
The more data is stored on a hard drive the longer it will take your operating system to sort through everything and find the files you're trying to access.
If you empty any files you don't need onto a flash drive or external hard drive, you can generally improve the speed of your Acer laptop computer a great deal.

also
Press windows button and in the search type msconfig go to startup tab and uncheck those you dont want to start.

Thanks for the help in advance, i have two issues if u could plz help me with i have an acer aspire 5315 laptop with 80Gb memory. The thing is this memory is separated into two hard drives, C and D. 1)I...

Disk D is for storing recovery configurations. To see what happened to your memory, go to the root directory C: from your "My Computer" icon. Scroll to the folders in the root. Right click each folder and select "Properties." The drive will add up all the memory being used by that folder. Take notes on what you have and then drill down into the folders that seem to be using more space than they should be. Delete stuff you don't need. Let me know if you have more questions.

How can increase memory/speed on my Acer notebook? What is 'FAT 32'?

memory is a hardware upgrade which usually plugs in into the bottom of the laptop. If you look on the bottom you will see a couple doors that unscrew and, but depending on the laptop you will be limited to how much you memory you can add. Also since you are asking about fat32 I will assume your laptop is at least 6 years old (FAT32 is the format of the hard drive, old DOS used FAT, when Microsoft released windows 95, it made options for bigger hard drives called FAT32, then with the release of Windows NT and later Windows machine use a hard drive format called NTFS. NTFS is still the current disk format even with windows 7) NTFS is more secure and can handle very large hard drives. If you let me know what ACER you have I can let you know how much memory you can add.

Hi j0shuatsb,
Acer like many other manufactures seem to design their system to fail or have issues just after their 1 year warranty is up. Like other Microsoft windows operating systems, when you receive an error message that you're memory is full. This does not mean you have run out of RAM = memory. You're notebook can only run a max of 4GB of memory. The error message refers to hard disk drive space. Depending on you're operating system, windows will lock out so much drive space so it can move about. All notebooks also have a hidden partition which holds drivers & programs used in combination for running the system restore.
This hidden partition can range in size from 2GB up to 4GB.
This also lessens you're total hard disk drive space. Bottom line is there is nothing wrong with your memory.
What you need is a larger hard disk drive. Notice the Technical specifications from this link:
http://www.acer.co.uk/public/page9.do?sp=page4&dau34.oid=24360&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&ctx3=-1&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=512458878
It does not show what size you're SATA hard disk drive is.
Since you are still in warranty, now would be the time to increase you're drive size. On another note, if you're HDD is the standard 160GB than there is an issue with your current HDD.
Please run a full system virus scan.
Suggest you back up all you're personal data on to a DVD & run you're system restore CD including a format to help you regain you're HDD full space. A temporary fix would be to uninstall any non needed programs through Add/Remove programs. This should free up some space. Many Acer programs you do not use at all or need should be the first to go.

Welcome to Vista. Windows Vista is automatically set up to power down after you have left it alone for too long. If you press the power button everything should be fine. Otherwise tell me what happens.
