Question about Whirlpool AWM8103/1 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool AWM8103 front-loading washer. I had to replace the water-level pressure switch but I have not been able to figure out how to set the switches on the new one and the water levels are somewhat erratic, with occasional 'FH' and 'FP' fault codes. I need a procedure for setting-up the switches.

Unfortunately, it's a bit late for that; I fiddled about with the screws on the pressure switch trying to get the water levels right. It did get better but it's not right and I occasionally get fault codes 'FH' or 'FP'. There are 3 screws arranged vertically on the switch; what do they do?

  • Andy Read Oct 10, 2010

The pressure switch is not set because I've fiddled about with the screws. The hose leading to it is OK. I need to know how to set the switches, of which there are 3, arranged vertically.

  • Andy Read Oct 10, 2010

Which level does each of the 3 screws control?

  • Andy Read Oct 17, 2010

Sorry for the delay; I have been away from home. The switch has 4 wires to it. I have attached a picture. The switch is normally mounted so that the 3 screws (in the red holes) are arranged vertically but I have leaned it over for the sake of taking the picture. The air tube is at the bottom and is not visible because of the wires. If I knew the water level at which each of the 3 switches should activate then I could put that amount of water in the drum and turn the screw until it clicked I just don't know the water level that each switch corresponds to.

You don't have to worry about setting up the switches because all you have to do is remove the old pressure switch, transfer the wires to the new pressure switch one at a time, then install the new pressure switch in place of the old malfunctioning pressure switch. Also check the pressure switch hose and make sure it is in good operating condition, i.e, the hose is not clogged nor kinked.

Those screws are used to adjust the contacts separation and therefore the water level before the switches activate. The fault code FH means water is not detected entering the machine while FP means draining failure or the drum is detected not emptying. Both fault codes are related to the pressure. Water entering the machine is detected through the tripping of the pressure from empty to full position while the drum emptying is detected through the tripping back of the pressure switch from full position to empty.

Since the pressure switch is yet you still don't get proper water level, the issue is likely with the pressure hose being clogged or kinked. Check the pressure hose particularly its attachment to the tub.

The screws are not graduated and therefore very difficult to adjust or put back to its preset positions. The only thing you can do is estimate the preset positions of the screws or buy a new one.

Washer stopped with error code F35 Whirlpool front loading automatic washer

Hi

Error code F 35 means ANALOG PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE. There is any malfunction of the component detected by the Steamer Electronic Board. Please check whether the pressure hose is fixed firmly, and the air trap is not blocked. Make sure the hose is not plugged. If this doesn't resolve the issue then it is a problem with the water level pressure switch operation. There could be a blockage in the air dome or pressure switch hose. The air dome is located on the back of the tub on the left hand side. If the pressure switch hose and the air dome is clear of any blockages, then there is an issue with the water level pressure switch, you would need to replace it. Please post back in case of further assistance. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

The awm8103 not working it writing FH .what its mean?

I have not seen this but from the online fault code listing says that these are the conditions for the failure:

No water detected entering machine or Pressure switch trip not detected.

If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.

Or

If the control has turned the water valves on and after 8 minutes the flow meter has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off and the error code will flash.

And the things to check are:

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.
If there is no water in the unit:
Make sure that both valves at the water source(s) are turned on all the way.
Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves
Check inlet valve operation
If there is water in the unit:
Check Drain pump operation
Pressure Switch Hose is in good condition and properly connected to Tub and Pressure switch
Check there is not a siphon problem
Check wire harness connections to:Inlet Valves, Pressure Switch, Drain Pump, Flow Meter, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
Check all hoses for possible leaks
Check pressure switch operation
Check flow meter operation
Check CCU operation

• If there is water in the unit:
- Verify Drain pump operation
- Pressure Switch Hose is in good condition and properly connected to Tub and Pressure switch

• Verify there is not a siphon problem
• Verify wire harness connections to; Inlet Valves, Pressure Switch, Drain Pump, Flow Meter, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
• Check all hoses for possible leaks
• Verify pressure switch operation
• Verify flow meter operation
• Verify CCU operation

Replace failed component.

My whirlpool front load washer, only a year and a half in use, stops after filling and flashes the message F35. The trouble shooting manual does not give any explanation for F35. Any suggestions?

F35 is a water level error.
The water level switch (pressure switch) has malfunctioned.

If you remove the top panel, three screws in the back, you will have access to the pressure switch.

With the tub empty, remove the vinyl hose from the switch and blow backwards through the hose to clear any restrictions.

If the fault codes return after doing this, you will likely need to replace the pressure switch.

Also - please be sure to use He soap.

My whirlpool duet front load washing machine stops in mid cycle

F21 = LONG DRAIN ERROR

If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes the water valves turn off. After 4 minutes the “Sd” error will be displayed, then 4 minutes later the F21 error code will be displayed.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear.

Procedure:

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
4. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
5. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7.
6. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
7. Replace the pump.

Alternative Procedure:

If the machine cannot be forced to its diagnostic mode then:

1. Disconnect the washer from the power supply and water supply.
2. Remove the top panel by taking out the three screws in the back of the washer. The pressure switch is right on top.
3. Remove the Molex connector from the water level switch / pressure switch.
Refer to the picture below.
4. Reconnect the power supply but not the water supply.
5. Power the machine. The machine will enter diagnostic mode.
6. Power off the machine.
7. Replace the water level switch / pressure switch.
8. Reconnect the water supply.
9. Power on the machine it will work without error

Whirlpool AWm8103/3

I had the same problem and found that the brushes on the motor had worn out. I replaced them and now all is well. They cost between £30 and £40 to replace and it's a very straight forward job. My only problem was excessive sparking from the new brushes until they bedded in. I simply ran the spin program at 400rpm a few times until the sparking disappeared.

As always, be careful around electrics and if your not sure get a pro to help
