Yes, oiling is important. But, try taking a hair dryer to it after you take off the cover. Sounds like it needs heat to get going. The new oil should make a lot of difference. Good luck

most machines have parts to oil it sound as if its been lying for quite awhile but don't worry if the working parts get oiled sparingly let it sit over night on a old towel just in case of any drips.but please use very little light oil. just a thought the wheel that turns the belt has it a small nobb in the middle that turns for to wind the bobbin might not be in the right position try turning it first to see if it helps i hope this is of some help to you

go to the singer website and customer service and ask them about oiling the machine, tell them the model number and ask them if the machine is a self oiling sewing machine?

Blocked motor message for 2140. Has happened 3 different times. Sewing machine repair is two hours away and I need my machine today. I did all the thread things suggested with the bobbin, re threading,...

You said the hand wheel barely moves. Is that all the time? If the hand wheel is hard to turn the motor is getting overloaded and is protecting itself by stopping and giving you the error message. You need to determine why the hand wheel is tight. There could be thread caught or something might need lube. These are non oiling needed machines however sometimes a linkage might need fresh lube.

Motor is fine, but won't sew

since the machine has been setting for 20 years, it needs to be serviced
the old grease & oil have probably turned the gunk. the servicing can also tell if any parts are damaged

When I step on the pedal, the wheel barely turns. If I 'help' the wheel, every once in a while it will work. Does it need cleaning and oiling? Is this something I can do on my own

Refer to the maintenance section of your manual.

If the continues after cleaning, you will need to take the sewing machine in for service.

If you do not have a manual, you can download a free one at the Brother website.

I was having the same problem with mine when I first started using it. I hope the solution to your problem is as simple as mine. Turn the rotary wheel away from you instead of toward you. Most modern sewing machines (new singers etc.) the wheel turns toward you when you are sewing. However, with the pully system of the old kenmore, it will naturally turn away from you. Seems obvious, but if you are only used to working on newer machines you may not have thought of it.

Try it out. I haven't had the problem since.

Necchi 575FA runs heavy, wheel barely turns.

It is the bit that rotates the bobbin case back and forth in a "shuttle" motion.
It sounds like it would be worth exploring the idea that it is time for a service !!

My hand wheel on my serger is super tight and is barely turning, and basically the machine is not working?

your machine needs servicing. make sure you oil all spots indicated in your user manual and turn handwhel by hand for a minute or so to work oil in.

if this doesn't make machine easy to turn see a tech for full service.
