You can recover pictures by connecting the camera or memory card to the computer in storage device mode (if camera asks, memory card wont ask)
And using a program called FileScavanger. Althought it is not 100% guaranteed that you would be able to obtain the pictures.
Unfortunately it is not a free program, but noting good never comes free.
