Hello,

The speakers are by the two sides of your device, but you will need to press the reord and play button on your device to record.

Take care.

Hello try to used and external headset to make sure the speaker is not the problem, if no audio come out the headset when you are listening watch the red light indicator and talk if the red light blinks you unit may have the internal record switch broken and you may over recording your tapes you can send your unit to repair but I think is cheaper to get a new one, you can get a similar one at http://www.tvps.com/Products/SONY-M-675V-Micro-Cassette-Recorder---New-M675V__SO-M-675V.aspx

I have a sony tc-186sd (taperecorder). At the back there is a LINE IN/OUT L & R.Can i add a laptop at line in and speakers to line out L & R?

Simple answer: yes.

More detail, start with recorder volume input and laptop output settings no higher than 50% so you minimize the risk of distorting the audio. Use a quality, commercially recorded audio file as a set-up source (because it will have more consistent recording levels).

Also, the speakers will have to be "powered" because the LINE OUT level is not strong enough to drive speakers.

Unable to understand how to dictate and play back

It may seem too obvious, but make sure the volume control is turned up fully. If you do not hear a click through the loudspeaker when pressing the record button then either the 'speaker wire has broken or the 'speaker itself is dead. Parts are still available.

Connect audio components for recording Cassette to CD

Try this since you do not supply model numbers. If your receiver and CD have digital audio connector (coaxil or fiber) hook the receiver output to the cd input.

If you do not, see if there is a spare set of RCA jacks for output. If not, just hook up the cd player in the cassette jacks-there is always a cassette in and out-and hook your cd player to an auxillary input or use the cd player input.

Remeber though, cassettes have inherently more noise than cd so your cds will not sound like a pre-packed cd.
