Question about Sony Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have a new Sony DSX-S100 car radio head with "direct Ipod connectivity". Works great with Samsung Mp3, memory sticks, mobile phone and Ipod Nano, but not with my Ipod Classic 4g - just get "no support" message. Tried restoring and reloading ipod software, ensured latest version even tried non-Apple firmware - same result. Sony support centre is useless. Will work via Aux input of course, but you cant control the ipod from the head unit that way

It sure sounds like a software conflict, as you've suspected, and it's probably not going to be a big enough issue for Apple to mess with, so I seriously doubt there's an answer to this situation. Perhaps some brainy programmer will figure out a modification to the firmware, but not likely. However, I'm wondering if an earlier version of firmward would be more basic and acceptable to the Sony, doubt it, but might be worth a try- the latest ones don't seem to be working.
I'll add a comment if I run across something constructive...

My ipod wont play through the docking system, how do i solve this? it is a sony ICF-CS10iP. i have tried unpluging it. it used to work when i had this problem before. but it hasnt worked for a couple days...

Please check the iPod connector on the Sony. If you can wiggle it, it is probably a bad connection. These model Sony radios have the connector directly soldered on a PCB and it tends to get loose after a while due to connecting/disconnecting the iPod. If it is loose, the connector needs to be re-soldered back into place.

I have had the following circumstances when there was a bad connection:
- iPod will not be charged
- iPod can not play music through the Sony
- iPod will play music through the Sony, but an iPhone won't

When i have the stereo on radio my amp/subs work fine, but as soon as i switch the mode to USB ( built in ipod connector) it cuts out the power to the amp/subs. It only works on tuner mode (radio) why?

use the blue/white wire (amplifier remote turn on) instead of the blue wire (power antenna remote turn on) to turn your amp on. the power antenna wire shuts off when leaving tuner mode.

Ipod is playing but no sound comes out of the speakers. The auxilary port doesn't work, but the radio produces sound.

I had the same problem. We had connected the power antenna lead (blue wire on Sony harness) instead of the amp on lead (blue/white on Sony harness). Check that all your connections are correct.

you connected ipod with some high energy source or tried to provide a high energy from it e.g you connnected it with speakers,or head phones other than ipod. ipod works fine when attached to computer because it acts as an usb device at that time. go to Ipod shop and replace a chip inside it which is blown

New Ipod Nano 4th Gen 16GB has went blank and will not turn on

HI there,

worst case scenario is that a circuit has broken inside. But your ipod will be under warrenty for a year from purchase.

Otherwise, leave the ipod to charge for a long time. Just leave it connected directly to the computer USB port despite not having any change in appearance. Also, don't connect it via a usb hub or through your keyboard. You will need to plug it into your computer directly.

You can also try entering DFU mode. Here is a great step by step guide to do that. http://iphonefreakz.com/beginners-guide/howto-dfu-mode/

Then restore the ipod and update the firmware. Make sure you have the latest version of itunes installed. By checking through software update.

I hope this helps,

Nathan.

Getting music directly off Ipod nano 2gig

When you plug the iPod into the computer, a window may or may not pop up, depending on what you told Windows to do with the player the first time you connected it. If the window does not pop up automatically, double-click My Computer, double-click the icon of the iPod, and you should see a folder that says Music. If this folder is missing, that may explain your symptoms. Right click a blank area of the Nano window, and select New --> Folder --> and create a folder named "Music". Try syncing again, and see if it works.

How do I connect an external MP3 player, such as an iPod, to my head unit?

you would need to purchase an aftermarket devise to send an rf signal to the fm tuner- there are also fm modulators the have a direct connection to to antenna plug on the rear or the radio- your radio does not have any jack for a direct connection or controls for it to operate an ipod or mp3
