Have a ford dealer run your vin number and see if the motor is the original. It should have a tag on the side somewhere.

I just bought a 1981 bronco and the vin code said it has a 351 windser but it has a 351 modified and from every thing i read they did not use the modified in 1981 also i was told it would be vary e-z to...

you will have to remove the motor, pull oil pan replace crank and change the push rods and cam but if your are going that far why stop for just that little bit you might as well go and pull he heads have them port and pollished add headers and new high rise intake and bigger carb the remove the oem fan and water pump buy a electric water pump and electric fans to mount on the radatior.

Should I rebuild my Ford Bronco 351 Windsor Holly 4 bbl carb or replace it with an Edelbrock carb?

In all my experience, if you know how to correctly tune a edelbrock then go with that, but, holley has outstanding carbs that can muster up to an output of 1,200hp. it would be much cheaper to et a rebuild kit from say, o'reillys, 20-45 dollars depending on which one you have.
I have a 1985 Bronco 351w 4x4, i just rebuilt my holley and she runs smooth

1981 ford bronco failed emissions twice

Look behind the motor, next to the firewall. There's a vacuum check valve that keeps the air gulp pump from pressurizing the crankcase. Mine was shot; had the same symtoms. Also, make sure that the EGR valve is closing at low idle.

You don't need an engine light to check the codes. First, do a KOEO (key on, engine off), but, let me tell you, when this happened to me (1986 Full size with 302 EFI, multiport injection) NOTHING showed up. No one, not Ford, not emission specialists, nada, knew the vacuum check valve existed.

By the way; are you getting motor oil in the air filter housing?

I have a 1975 Ford Early Bronco that has been sitting for 20 yrs

Change plugs & wires, New battery , Install radiator. Crank it over if it starts and is smoking needs new vale guide seals and maybe new rings. But try to get it started first then go from there. If it wont turn over try to turn over by hand from front crank pully with socket and breaker bar to free up motor.

1989 BRONCO XLT WITH A 5.8 351 CLEAVLAND

The Bronco did come with the 5.8L. It's a 351 Windsor though. Ford quit making the Cleveland engine back in '74. You should have a vacuum diagram under the hood of your truck.

Bronco Wont Start (help please)

Check for timing gear problems. They have plastic teeth on the cam shaft gear which will shatter causing it to jump time.
