Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have installed and successfully used Skype since May, from Canada. I have made calls to China and had no problems. Now that I work in China, I have successfully used it locally, but have a problem when calling Germany, I can hear them, but they cannot hear me. (I have plenty of Skype Credit and working, because every time I attempted to call Germany I can see my credit amoung shrinking, so I am being billed). My headset is working, and I tried the Sound/Test service in Skype. In other words it all works elsewhere but have a voice problem when calling Germany. I have version 4.1.0.179. When I try to upgrade I get each time redirected to Chinese Skype home page for download and then I am told that my Skype version is higher than the one required in China, so I am not allowed to upgrade. I have Vista on my laptop and have already created the new Windows Firewall Security Inbound and Outbound rules. Is there any other setting that I need to apply? Thank you, Dagmar Thank you, Dagmar

Thank you sanjaynadav for your advice. I am behind a network and they won't do anything like that for me here. I have read somewhere on forum that I need to allow port 80 through my Windows firewall, but I am looking for instructions on how to do it, under exceptions in windows firewall settings for allowing Skype to communicate. When I select Skype and click on Add Port it is asking for name (what do I put here?) and port (doesn't like just plain number 80 (is it maybe 0080?).
    Tx for any help

Email skype to get it sorted out.
Often Skype block it as as security measure so determine whether they are fraudulent calls or not.

Ge skype phone

This sounds like a problem with your actual Skype account and not your physical phone. You can use Skype normally, but "Skype Out" (calling land lines) costs money, and the system doesn't seem to think you have any credit on your account.

Try this:
1) Check your configuration on the phone and double check the Skype account username is the one you have credit on.

2) Login to Skype on a computer with the same account. Call someone's land line and confirm a call can connect.

If you can't connect to a land line there (but your Skype account shows you have credit), contact Skype support - there's something wrong on their end that they will have to fix.
If you can connect just fine, try clearing and resetting the user account settings on the phone. If it still doesn't work, try connecting it to a different network (go to Starbucks and use their wifi or something).

I have a skype account but when itry to use it for calls within Canada I am told I do not have enough credit in my account to make the call. thought skype was free?

Skype is free to call and chat with other Skype users through Skype. You need to buy Skype credits in order to call landlines or mobile phones from Skype.

Skype should be fine on all versions of windows 7. What exactly happens when you try to use it? Is it installed properly? Try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it.

Try your webcam here, by hitting 'Allow' in the top window
http://www.testmycam.com/
Your webcam should broadcast in the left hand window.

If that is successful you know you can now configure it to Skype
Start Skype.
On the Tools menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click 'Audio Settings'.
Select your mic as the default microphone.
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click 'Video Settings'.
Select your webcam as the default.
Trim webcam image using 'Settings'
Click Save.
Test Cam by making a Skype test call.

TAKING PICTURES FROM THE PHONE TO MY COMPUTER

i don't know whether iam giving u the right suggestion!!!!! let me give a practical situation that i encountered, i have china mobile which acts a camcorder when i plug it in to the computer using usb cable... initially i couldn't take video or capture picture from my phone but when i tried on other system it started working....to my surprise i could take video, capture pictures when i started using a software called Skype(used for chating, calling online).

possiblities:

i) it mightbe problem with our operating system, so try downloading some usb video or picture recording software...

ii) try using SKYPE to just make sure that ur phone is in state of taking video or pictures, while using skype......go to Tools---->Options---->Video Settings---->if ur phone is working properly a video appears, from there u can take snapshots using a button just below(explore)

iii) try connecting in system which has a licensed operating system, in which usb video recording device is not corrupted....

i hope that i did solve ur problem, if you need any further clarifications you can ping me....

Thanking you
