Question about E-Machines Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have an e-Machine ET1331G-03W. I want to upgrade my processor from a AMD Athlon II X2, to an AMD Phenom II 6-core. My motherboard is a MCP61PM-GM Rev: 2.4. The "manufacturer" of the motherboard is supposedly "e-Machine" but I'm not sure about that. I've use various programs to scan my system and they all came out to that manufacturer. My BIOS is AMI. I want to know if my motherboard is compatible with this processor and if so, where can I find my BIOS update. I have no idea where I can find an update for my motherboard BIOS. Thank you for your help and time.

Well that can't be right because my motherboard supports AM3. But I am thinking now that the motherboard isn't compatible with the new processor even with a bios update?

Thank you for the information. I plan to build a new computer now.

Emachines don't allow/don't recommend end users to update bios in "Do It Yourself" method and there's no bios download options available. If you want to update or upgrade your emachine's bios, you have to contact the Emachines customer care and seek their advice, they'll let you know all about the Bios update and will give you the link to download the bios-rom.
It's not with your model alone, but all emachines models... i've uploaded a screenshot for your model bios update page to make you understand better :
I have an e-Machine ET1331G-03W. - abbf585.jpg

All models will get the same information, you can contact the customer care through this page (click here).

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I found the specs of the MCP61PM-GM motherboard at the following link:
http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/4006254R/4006254Rsp2.shtml

The manufacturer of the motherboard is ECS, not e-Machines as identified by the programs you used to scan your system hardware.
This motherboard supports the following processors:
Supports AMD AM2 Socket K8 Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64, Athlon FX, and Sempron processors under 89 watt power consumption.
The AMD Phenom II 6-core you intend to upgrade to is at least 95W, so it does not suit this motherboard, even with a BIOS upgrade. Refer to the following link:

Is the Am3+ socket also possible for sapphire AM3RS890G2?

am3+ socket is what the socket is listed on the motherboard, so if you have a CPU that fits only AM3+, the CPU wont fit it unless directed by the CPU manufacture seeing that AM3+ is for AMD processors only if you have a older AM3 CPU it might fit the AM3+ motherboard if listed, this paticular model only lists AM3 and fits Sempron, Phenom II X3, Athlon II X2, Phenom II X2, Athlon II X4, Athlon II X3, Phenom II X4, Phenom II X6
