Question about Sony STR-DE135 Receiver

1 Answer

Hi, my STR-DE135 receiver window blinks the word "protect". I'm pretty sure it overheated due to inadequate ventilation--it stopped playing suddenly and was hot to the touch. It's been unplugged for more than a few hours (one of the troubleshooting strategies suggested by Sony). Hoping for a simple fuse repair... I really appreciate any help you could offer!! Thanks so much!

IT BLINKS PROTECT

It might be overheating. Make sure there is proper ventilation space all around unit. If that does not do it you might have an internal fan burned out.

I have a Sony STR-DE135 receiver emitting a persistent hissing sound on all functions and inputs (CD, Tuner, TV/Sat, MD/Tape, Video). I have a pair of Boston Acoustic CR5 speakers attached. Any ideas on...

most hissing problems come from earth issues within the system them selves, i dont recommend taking the case of and plugin it in to start testing if its an earth problem. So my best solution is to simply take it your local music or electrical shop and pay for a repair or see id they can diagnose the issue, other than that i dont have a solution for you. I have a little guitar amp which was buzzing it's little heart out, but when i touched my guitar strings the buzzing stops (as i become the earth on touching it) so i tried my guitar on a different amp and it was fine, so my little amp was the problem, i took it apart and noticed that the screw for the earth was loose, once i tightened it the problem stopped and all is good. best regards.

I have a Sony STR-DE135 receiver and the speakers keep cutting out. what could be the problem?

Heat, loose speaker wires, excess volume, low load impedance?

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Second Sony DE135 overheating. One has completly failed and other goes to Protect mode. Trying to connect 2 pairs of new ceiling speakers (8ohms) each through its own JA Audio Impedance Volume Control. ...

I"m not trying to be the expert on this but i had the same problem with a older sony and it ended up be a short in the wires in the wall. You can test it with a volt meter.

SONY STR-DE125 READS PROTECTED

protection is designed to protect the output transistors from, shorted speaker wires, shorted speakers, too low speaker impediance, make sure the amp is well ventilated.
turn the amp off for 1 to 2 hours to allow thermal reset if this fails most likley some internal damage has occured and the unit will need to be serviced

I have a STR-D665 FM-AM Reciever. It worked fine before I moved but now after about 5 minutes of play it will click and flash "Protect". Is there a way to reset this? Do I have something wired incorrectly?

When you moved did you put somethink on it so that it does not have good ventillation through itself to keep it from overheating? Or set it down in a way that it does not have ventilation room under it? Some papers set on top of it or a pillow under it would block good cooling ventilation through it.

Sony STR-DE135: No audio output

first, at turn on you should hear a relay click then a few seconds later a second click. if you should hear the two relay clicks then check to see if you have both A and B speakers on, if you do shut B speaker off. next check the tape monitor switch make sure that it is off. if you should not hear the second relay click you have a problem with the unit and needs to be repaired.
