Generally laptops from 1990-2005 had speakers that functioned as a microphone. Later laptops had a microphone port. Easy way to tell is look on the sides of your laptop, and by your headphone jack will be another port- that would be your microphone port. If you do not, go to accessories and pull up the sound recorder- if you see a sound response when you hit record and talk at your system, your laptop speakers are acting as a microphone.

I have a laptop and my mic is not working

I suggest that you scan your computer with RadarSync so that you will know if the mic driver is outdated. You can use the same software to update the driver.
On the other hand, you can also do a system restore to a date when your mic was still working.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Lenovo ideaPad U260 built in mic doesn't work

Hello, "Ana Gonzalez".
Your problem sounds like you don't have the software setup right.
Since you could post your problem here,
I suggest that you either use the Lenova website to research this,
or check out the website for their support options.
I've seen a number of systems with software settings improperly applied, causing the microphone to malfunction.
Or to cease to function at all.
Without either a screenshot or the exact name and version of the software, its not possible to more precise.
However, IF you can open the software for the audio control, the volume, and the mic, then you should check to make sure that it is setup correctly.
Hopefully helpful,

Will a diesel 360-3 mic ork on a galaxy dx99v

  • Hi, I can help.

  • The Diesel Electronics CB will work but you have to wire it as stated below.

  1. #1 Shield and Black - Ground
  2. #2 Yellow - Audio
  3. #3 White - Transmit
  4. #4 Red - Receive

  • I don't know if anyone before you has re-pined that mic or not so if you just remove that little Philips screw at the mic connector and then give it a quarter turn you can slide the connector out and take a look and compare the wiring. The actual numbering for the pins on the Galaxy 4 pin mic connector is as indicated below in the diagram. As you look at the mic tip make sure the indent on the mic is as it is the diagram.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

I have a emachines e627 laptop with a build in webcam so i would like to know if it has a built in mic r can i install one?

This laptop DOES have a built in mic. You can access the sound settings for the laptop in the Control Panel to be sure that the laptop is using the mic as the input device. Chances are the microphone is already setup as the default.
The following webpage explains how to get to the controls and make changes if you need to.
