Question about Garmin Quest GPS Receiver
My Quest has been left out in my hot car too many times, and needs to be replaced, but I can't find one for it.
I have successfully changed the battery in two Quest II units. While it
may not be for some who are intimidated by the inner workings of electronic devices,
it is not that hard either. You will need a small Phillips head
screwdriver. Removed the back by removing the 6 small Phillips head
screws on the back. Use caution with the two screws that hold the
endcap for the antenna. It is not a problem if the endcap comes off,
but there is a small spring holding tension on the antenna and if it
pops out, it is easily lost. Handle the two parts of the GPS gently as
there are wires that joining the two sections. The battery is held into
the back section of the GPS with some glue but it is easily removed
with gentle prying. Use a small flatbladed screwdriver to remove the
plug from the battery to the circuit board.
This should be all that is needed with the old battery. A new battery
can be obtained from www.batteryship.com. They sell the direct
replacement for the Quest and Quest II GPS units. When you go to their
website, there is a list of various devices they sell batteries for.
Click on GPS. This will bring up a page for various manufacturers.
Select Garmin, and look for Quest. I think the battery runs around $25.
After plugging the new battery in, you may want to use a small dab of glue to secure it to the back side of the unit like the original battery. Reassemble the unit, reversing the process with the front and the back. The Quest units have a rubber sealing gasket between the two sections. Be sure you inspect that for kinks before tightening the 6 small screws. I would suggest the screws be tightened down gradually so uniform pressure will be applied to the gasket. I would tighten one screw down partially then move to the opposite side and criss-cross the unit until all screws are snug. Again, inspect the gasket for proper seating and you are done.

We just ran into battery problem. it swelled up and warped the
case. The usb port stopped working. When we opened case to
find if we could get a battery we spaced the usb connector up
so that it hit the contacts on unit and usb worked so we at least
didn't lose info. Garmin stated that if usb didn't work they could
not grt data from unit.
