Open Question

I have a Maxent 50 " plasma TV that I am trying to sell. Prospective buyers are asking me questions like "is it 720 vs 1080 Pixels"??What year is it?(I think 2007) How do I find out? I lost the operation manuel. All I know is the Product name says mx-50X3 and model # P500550HM8. Is there a way to find out a fair asking price? Thanks so much

Yes I had this problem. Unplug the power cord for 1 min then plug it back in. The tv will reset and the buttons then work again.

There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance. The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on, if there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, and use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up; if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault. It can also be related to WEAK ELECTROLYTIC capacitors as the value can reduce in time. Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections.

Here is a link to the RETREVO site which has a PDF copy of the complete User's Manual for the Maxent 50" Plasma TV:

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Maxent-MX-50X1-TVs-manual/id/278ag121/t/2/

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above.
This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.

When you get to the RETREVO page, click on the blue DOWNLOAD THE DOCUMENT (2.64MB) button on the left hand side of the page under USER MANUAL FOR MAXENT MX-50X1.

Once you click on that and get to the next page, don't bother typing your email address in the empty box, it's not necessary.
Just TYPE THE NUMBERS SHOWN BELOW into the second empty text box.

Then click the red DOWNLOAD NOW button.

When the computer asks if you want to open or save the file, CHOOSE OPEN.

If it does not open, then you may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read the PDF document.
You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary.
Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, then follow the onscreen instructions to install the software on your computer.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any details to add, have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.

Joe.

My 42" Vierra 1080 plasma

The pixels in the screen are commanded by a buffer board . This board connects to the screen with the help of a wide flat connector - in your case this command circuit appears to be faulty: either the buffer circuit is failing and the entire buffer board will have to be replaced ($250 part and labor from a pro) or the connection itself appears to be slightly out of line so when heated the contact is lost and the pixels get stuck (in that case the tv will have to be completely dismantled and all the contacts to the plasma panel reseated - $200 in labor).
Ask a quote around and select the cheapest repair shop you can find.

Sounds like you have a row of pixels that have failed. Check and see if it is under warranty, If not it can be very pricey to repair.

if you take the back cover off the tv, you will see in a white screw in almost every board, those are called pot. (potentiometer).
if you can get to meter the Ve. Vs. and Vset. start to screw or unscrew those white screw according to what the label says.
usually the ones who gives you the blue and red dots are the white screw on the right of the center panel, and the one on the right of the right panel right under the metal thing to hang on the wall.
