Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer

Open Question

I have a Kenmore/Whirlpool 110.24952300 Elite Washing Machine. It works fine on Normal Cycle but is not working correctly on Permanent Press Cycle. Basically, it takes forever and seems to get stuck in different stages during the cycle. If you help the dial along manually it seems to work. I am thinking it is the 60hz Timer (part #8541110) but I am wondering if someone can tell me for certain. I am afraid that it might be the control board. Thanks for any help.

SOURCE: Won't switch from wash to spin...

I had the same problem. If you remember when it did work, you could have the door open during the wash (for adding bleach, etc) but wouldn't work during the spin. I replaced the switch and it worked fine after that.

SOURCE: timer turns and i hear the clicking but the

saved $50 bucks at least and here's how......very easy. pulled out my washing machine from the wall. took the top cover off. (just the cover holding the timer button, load size, etc...) mine has 2 screws and 2 bolts taken off with a pair of wide nose pliers. once that is off look at the timer (from behind ofcourse) you will see a whole bunch of wires (all different colours and at least 20 of them) all going into a plastic piece that is connected to another plastic piece that is attached to the timer. pull these plastic pieces apart. WAIT!!! before you do, there is a clip that you have to push so that these 2 plastic pieces will come apart without force. once you press that little clip they will come apart easily. then if you look inside the plastic piece attached to the timer you will see what sort of looks like a bunch of flattened out pins. these are connectors and mine were dirty preventing a good connection. i used a metal nail file to clean them ( you can use a wood nail file or sand paper). then i put everything back together and was surprised and happy that everything worked like new again! good luck!!!!

SOURCE: instructions for installing timer part number

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Then see the following for how to release the console for access to the timer.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=5216f244d51176ce1069bbf148b14335

Then see the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers. It has troubleshooting and testing procedures as well as a description of the TWO types of timers. Each has different procedures for replacing them.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

If yours is the metal type, the procedures call for unscrewing the timer knob before it can re removed.

You may need to use a thin needle nose pliers to hold the shaft on the back side of the timer in order to unscrew the knob.

I agree, it is most likely a timer problem. Possibly "rust" build-up.

See the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for top load, direct drive washer for troubleshooting and diagnostics procedures.

Gorenje washing machine wa 72145 washing clothes but doesnt spin keeps comimg up child lock

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Kenmore 110 Spin Cycle

Assuming that this is a basic top load, direct drive, neutral drain washer it seems as if the problem is likely in the timer.

The transmission and draining are controlled by the motor which gets it's power through the timer. If the timer isn't advancing once it gets to the spin cycle area, the motor keeps getting power, the machine keeps spinning and only by pushing in the control knob will the motor stop.

Here are a couple of places to look at how the machine works and parts for a basic Kenmore washer.

Sears parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a number of sub catagories for the washer components.

Whirlpool Installation and maintenance PDF.

This is a public domain Whirlpool manual describing how the washer works and a good troubleshooting section.

You have a bad motor. Your motor turns in one direction to wash and the other to spin. One directions windings are bad. This is why it is drawing currant so bad. Sorry, seems I'm always the bearer of bad news.

Whirlpool washer sometimes stops after the wash cycle

Sounds like the timer has given up. I bet if you just barely turn it, it will continue.

It's a common problem with timers like this.

Replace it.

The selections are all made by the timer control. I would look to this. Before replacing it, make sure the harness is connected nice and tight in the back.
