Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

All of a sudden can't download todays pictures from my Canon to PC. Usually, Zoombrowser ex comes on automatically.  Today, I get "communication error" prompt.  I can see pictures on camera but can't get to download using cannon software that came with camera. What can I do to get pictures to my pc from camera asap?
Thanks
Rose similar problem with a g7. plug the camera into the usb port with the supplied cable which usually brings up the eos utility on the computer and the transfer option on the camera. used it last night which worked fine, today i just get the communication error message. i've replaced the battery, plugged into a different usb port, unplugged and plugged the camera/cable connection and opened the eos utility that only has the monitor folder hi-lited, also replaced the memory chip with an older filled one that appears to have made contact with the application.

thank you much mrsjgreen. using a mac instead of a pc made your suggestions as to finding my device a bit trickier. however what ended up working was the sd card reader swap. that was found immediately and downloading proceeded as usual. also noticed that other cards in the camera seem to start the system just fine as well, leading me to believe the problem is with the card, except of course that it is still readable with the card reader. ideas on this? thanx.

Try updating the Zoombrowser software.

If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.

If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.

Here are the steps to take.

    1. Establish whether or not you have
a connection between your camera/computer by going to your start
    button, control panel, system, hardware
tab and device manager. The camera must be powered on and in playback
mode (should automatically go to playback mode when connected, camera's
screen should go black if there is a connection). Make sure you have a
fully or nearly fully charged battery in your camera.

    2. Once in
device manager, look under Imaging Devices. If your camera is properly
connected it should show up as Canon Powershot SD800. If it shows a
yellow exclamation point, there is a driver issue, and even if it
doesn't show a yellow exclamation point, you may want to update your
driver anyway by right clicking and having the system search
automatically for driver updates. If download of driver begins,
great...once finished, restart camera and your problem may be resolved.

    3. If there are any other imaging devices, you may have to temporarily disable them to avoid conflicts.

    4.
If you have any other imaging software running, exit or close the
program in your system tray (down by your clock in the right hand
    corner of your computer's desktop.

    5. Try again to connect.

    6.
If you are on a desktop, try a rear usb port vs. a front port. You can
also try a different port on a laptop. After each change, try
    restarting camera to establish connection.

    7. Go to start/My
Computer and look for the icon for your camera...you will be able to
download images even without Canon software loaded onto computer so
this is not a software issue if you have no hardware connection. If you
see the icon, right click on it and choose Get or Import pictures. From
there the default Microsoft scanner and camera wizard should launch and
you will be able to import your images.

    8. If still no
connection, try going to Start/Run and type in services.msc here you
are looking for 4 services to be running. Check under status of each
service and make sure it reads that each of these services are started.

    • Canon Camera Access Library 8 (if Canon software loaded)

    • SSDP discovery service

    • Universal Plug and Play Device Host

    • Windows Image Acquisition
    Once all of these
services are started on your computer, restart camera once again. If
any of the last three services are not on your computer or are not
started, connecting will be a problem.

If all of these steps fail, try purchasing an SD card reader from your local electronics store for around $12 and download images from there. Canon also offers lifetime technical support for your Powershot, so give them a call if none of these steps work or if you would like someone to walk you through it.

    Best of luck to you!

That is interesting and I'm glad you found a solution. As for the card, you can try formatting the card in the camera to try to fix any glitches. Don't do this of course until after you download your images since this will wipe all data off of your card. You should low level format if your camera gives you that option. Then try downloading from the camera again and if this doesn't work, it's one of life's mysteries, but I'm glad the other cards work when in camera and connected to your computer!

Please let me know if I can assist you any further.

Communication error is what the G7 told me. It turned out to be: too many pictures too download! The Canon website suggested this as a problem and were right on. Using the continuous drive mode I had taken thousands of pictures and had to delete some to get it to download and it worked like a charm.

Cannot connect a new Canon Ixus 130 to Windows XP PC - have already installed ZoomBrowser EX 6.5.1

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

Zoombrowser not working- not able to download RAW images to computer

Make sure you turned the camera on. Could be a bad cable. Best thing to get is a usb card reader. Some people report problems of bent pins because of removing and reinserting them in the camera. So be careful there. Re-Install the software that came with it from Canon. Or you can download it from CanonUSA. URL below.

choose your OS and download what you need.
Looks like ZoomBrowser is up to 6.1 now.

Canon USA has manuals for Zoombrowser available for download from their site, but they're all in English. If you have ZB version 6 you can download the manual here. If you have ZB version 5, you can download the manual here.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

The sd1000 manual says that you will get this error when you have too many pictures on your memory card (aprox 1000). I am not sure how many I had on my 2GB card but it was a lot. I deleted about 50 - 100 pictures and then it started working again and the new pictures downloaded to the computer.

Trouble using zoombrowser EX with windows vista ultimate

I found the problem.
This is what I did to solve the problem:

1. stop ZB

2. Delete all the ZbThumbnail.info files under "my pictures" and "my documents"

3. Move out all photos and directories from under "my pictures". Move them to a temp directory. ex d:\temp.
4. Start ZB and download some pictures from memory card

5. Then start moving files from temp dir to "my pictures", testing ZB occasionally.

Thanks
