Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

1. Place diskette in the computer.

Create Windows XP Setup diskettes

Microsoft is beginning to phase out bootable floppy diskettes in favor of bootable CD discs and has not included a method of easily creating a bootable floppy diskette in Windows XP or from the CD. However, Microsoft has downloads available for users who still need to create bootable diskettes to install (not upgrade) Windows XP. These downloads can be found through KB310994.

I am trying to reset password by following previous post of running in safe mode and putting Administrator in the user box however, when I run in safe mode there is no user box only one to enter the...

Hello, the only way I know, and it's only for XP, not W7, is to create a bootable cd with a Windows reset program on it. You'll need a cd copy of Windows to create it though. If you Google BartPE and include 'Windows password reset' you'll find the info you need. p.s. you also need a computer you can burn the bootable CD on.

Where do i find a boot up disk for my hp pavilion running xp? currently the unit starts to boot and then restarts.

Trying to get a bootable XP CD is difficult if not impossible to purchase. Therefore you might want to create one.

I just recently created a bootable XP CD since I was building a new computer and wanted to be able to boot from a CD.

The following URL is a blog I found that helped me create my bootable CD

Create Bootable XP CD

You'll need an XP CD in order to copy the files to your hard disk and to extract the boot image from.

I already had an XP SP3 disk and didn't need to perform the "merging" like the link above does. I did find and download iso buster (freeware) in order to extract the microsoft boot image file.

I used the Roxio steps to create my CD. My version of Roxio was slightly different so the instructions were not 100% correct but I was able to figure things out.

If you successfully create your bootable XP CD you will still need your license key to install just as if it came right from the factory

Writing bottable disk

Here are the instructions, taken right out of Nero's manual for Burning ROM 8. page 42:

9.3 Creating and Burning a Bootable Disc
To create a bootable disc, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the New button in the main Nero Burning ROM screen.
The New Compilation window is opened.
2. If you want to create a bootable CD, select the entry CD from the combo box and the entry
CD-ROM (Boot) from the list box. If you want to create a bootable DVD, select the entry
DVD from the combo box and the entry DVD-ROM (Boot) from the list box.
The tabs for the bootable disc are displayed; the Boot tab is in front.
3. If the template data for the bootable disc should originate from a logical drive:
1. Select the Bootable logical drive option button in the Source of boot image data area.
2. Select the entry you want from the drop-down menu.
If the logical drive you want does not appear in the drop-down menu, the reason for this is
that the drive is bigger than the space available on the disc. Please note that for operating
systems as of Microsoft® Windows® 2000 you need to have administrator rights in order to
be able to access drives directly, which you will need to do if you are to create bootable
discs.
4. If the template data for the bootable disc should originate from an image file:
1. Select the Image file option button in the Source of boot image data area.
2. Click on the Browse button and select the desired image file.
3. Select the language that should appear while the system is booting from the Boot locale
drop-down menu.
4. Check the Enable expert features box and select the emulation type for the image file
from the Emulation type drop-down menu.
5. Select any other options required on the tabs (see New Compilation Window).
6. Click on the New button.
 The selection screen is displayed.
7. Select the files/folders that should be written to the ISO part of the bootable disc and drag
them into the compilation area.
The files/folders are displayed in the compilation area and the capacity bar indicates how
much storage space is required on the disc.
You have now created the bootable disc and can start the burn process (see Starting
the Burn Process).
