Question about Computers & Internet

I have an HP G60 laptop that went bad. I had no video at all and it would net even get to POST. I replaced the motherboard and still have the same problem. I plugged a monitor into it to make sure that it was not the screen its self, removed the hard drive, RAM, and wireledd card. What would my next step be?

Yes, I did and no video there, neither

When I plugged in an external monitor, I still had no video.

I do have lights (power and wireless device) on the laptop and the cpu fan runs, but that is all I get. The power is all built into the mother board.

It is built into the motherboard.

I already replaced the RAM and still nothing.

Since it is not even completing the post. i.e. via cmos on the mother board. Then we shall suspect the only thing which gives power to the motherboard. change the power card and check. This is the first thing which one should do if not completing post.

Are you getting the clock check beep during the post or not. In case that is not coming I'd recommend you to remove the RAM once more take a contact cleaner spray it on the RAM and the contacts on motherboard. Leave it for 15 minutes to dry before trying to switch on your laptop.

The issue at hand had been faced by me with around 6 laptops and 7 desktops in which the systems were unable to complete post and hence, no display. All were rectified only through RAM in one laptop I was stuck where I was forced to change the RAM. I would recommend you to use the old motherboard with a new RAM and boot your laptop.

HOw bout your video card? is it built in with the motherboard or separate?

I do suspect a faulty ribbon. Since the board is new then the ribbon going to the lcd is faulty. Replace the ribbon and you'll be good.

Screen is black

Hooks external monitor to the video output, if okay suspect a bad inverter board located under the LCD screen, or a defective backlight behind the display. But if both show the same symptoms the video graphics card on the motherboard is the issue.

HP G60-243DX Laptop running but screen stays black.

Hook a external monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture okay! the inverter board in the laptop just below the screen is the more likely issue, or the backlight behind the LCD display is bad, but if both show the same problem it is the video graphics card that is defective normally built into the motherboard.

My laptop start but my monitor dosent turn on

Welcome to Fixya

Try to perform power drain to the system. Take out the battery and unplug the power from the wall. Press and hold the power button for 15 secs. Plug in the power afapter then trun on the computer.

If same thing will happen, try to use external monitor and connect it to your laptop. If still no display then the problem is the onboard video card.

Thank you for using Fixya!

I am working on an HP G60-231WM laptop. It had a bad fan and was overheating and shutting itself down. I replaced the fan and now I have no display - not even hooked up to an external monitor. Does this...

yes most likely it died altogether, overheating cpu can be a hazzardto most laptop. its always good to blow air thru the vent to keep it working a long time.

Boots up. sticks when HP appears on screen. Cant go any where from there except re boot or turn off. HP G60-235DX. Everyone says motherboard dead.??

Sounds more like a faulty HARD DRIVE or a bad ram stick.Computer repair places seem to always say that to get more money. Most of the time its not the motherboard but whats connected to it though.I would unplug the HDD and see if it will go on past that screen. If it does replacing the HDD would probably be the answer.

Left click button has colapsed on HP G60-535DX laptop/notebook

I had this happen with a Compaq CQ70....The palmrest has to be removed and in most cases the retainer for the button can be pushed back into position from underneath. At the very least, the button assembly may have to be replaced. Is it still possible to activate the left click even though the button is collapsed? If not, the problem maybe the collapse of the actual button assembly on the circuit board under the plastic button assembly. Below is the link to the service manual for that laptop. The link below is named cq60 etc, which is the HP cousin of the G60. They are exactly the same like Chevy trucks and GMC.

How change screen resolution hp g60-117us

If that is the max your current video card will do then your kinda hooped. Most video cards are part of the laptop motherboard and can't be changed out without changing the motherboard..... which means a new laptop.

Blue screen again wont start up

dv9000 are notorious for failing, even when repaired. The newest model to that, maybe the G70 or even the G60 is a good replacement. Even if the laptop comes to you with Vista, Windows 7 will over-right and install over it with no problens. I was one of the Beta Testers and never had a failure during an update....the new operating system is absolutely loaded with all kinds of device drivers, so you should be good to go.
