The dryer isn't getting hot, clothes aren't drying. It's a gas dryer, so I'm not sure why it won't get hot

Remove the bottom panel and start the dryer,if the ignitor isn't glowing orange or red then you could have a bad thermal fuse located on the blower wheel housing,a bad ignitor or a bad sensor located on the left side of the ignitor and on the outside of the burner tube, you'll need a meter to check the parts out, unplug the dryer, you need to pull at least one wire off the part you're going to check, the part will give you a reading or no reading it's that simple,if you get a reading it's good,if it stays on 1 and nothing else it's bad.if the ignitor is glowing then you have bad gas coils, bad gas valve or the ignitor could still be bad but most of the time if it's glowing it's good.if the dryer hasn't been cleaned in a long time check the thermal fuse first, pull out the lint filter, then remove the duct that the filter slides into and you'll see the thermal fuse on the right hand side of the blower wheel,it will be a 3392519 or a 3390719,these are the common fuses,if that's good read out the other parts, also if the fuse is bad you need to clean out the lint filter duct, vac out the bottom part of the dryer, then remove the vent line and blow it out if it's long,i use a leaf blower and it cleans the line out,go outside first and make sure the vent is clear so when you blow out the line nothing is blocking the lint from blowing outside,i've seen bird nests blow out of the line.clean it out once a year so you don't have a fire, the fuse won't blow again and your clothes will dry on time, let me know how you make out

if your dryer does not seem to be drying the wet clothes, first check that it is generating heat. If not, check the vent to make sure it is clear.
If the dryer runs but fails to heat clothing, check the circuit breaker. Most dryers use so much electricity that their functions are divided between two breakers. If one has been tripped, that may be why the heating elements aren't functioning. If the dryer still isn't heating, unplug it and pull it away from the wall. There's a service access panel on the back that should be pried free. Inside, you'll find a small black strip of plastic with two blue wires attached. This is the heating fuse. A replacement part can be had for around $15, and takes a little less than 1 minute to swap out. It's unlikely that the heating element itself, which consists of a few metal coils, is broken. If the dryer still won't heat, you're better off getting a replacement dryer than repairing the old one

you could have bad gas coils.if the timer doesn't advance in auto dry most likely you're having heat problems, when the dryer heats and then the heat shuts off then the timer will advance, when the heat comes back on the timer stops,it does this until the clothes are dry.gas coils when starting to fail will work normally until they get hot and then no heat until the coils cool down then they will work again,on time dry the timer just keeps counting down until the time runs out no matter what's happening to the dryer.i've seen the coils fail after the first 10 minutes and other times for 20 to 30 minutes but usually if the load is big and in time dry the clothes will feel warm and you'll need to dry them a second time to get them fully dry, also while you're in ther you should clean out the dryer at least once a year, clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, vacuum out the cabinet where the motor is and blow out the vent line,if it's a long run i use a leaf blower to blow out the line, remove it from the back of the dryer, stick the leaf blower into the vent line and blow it out,i've blown out birds nest out of some lines, your clothes will dry on time, you won't go through so many parts and you won't have to worry about a dryer fire, the gas coils are on top of the gas valve, remove the two phillips screws, lift off the cover and change out the coils.next time you use the dryer keep an eye on it,after it runs for 20 minutws start checking it,you'll hear a click, then another click and the flame will lite, look into the gas tube and if the flame isn't liting then you have bad gas coils.

Dryer will get hot but will not dry clothes

If the dryer gets hot, but not drying the clothes my first question would be if the drum is turning or not. If not then I would check the belt and make sure it isn't busted. Then I would check to make sure that your exhause hose is not clogged up. If so clean out.

But if that isn't the problem then I would check the blower assembly.

My roper gas dryer seems to be getting heat (not very hot) but isn't drying clothes. the selector nob only turns under timed dry.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Clothes are real hot to the touch

sounds like you have a venting problem,, check for clogs or blockage in the vent pipe,, and also at the exit from the house to be sure the vent cover flows freely and isn't smashed down. check inside this vent to be sure the flap inside of it moves freely and isn't stuck,, Normally when clothes get hot to the touch its caused by the clothes heating up to dry and the moisture isn't allowed to be vented out
