The LaCie Ethernet Big Disk is attached directly to the pc via the USB cable.

  • Lord Sunshine Oct 09, 2010

    Strange indeed!
I did try doing windows update to search for drivers: No results.

    I searched online: No results.

The drives are spinning and I do not think that the drives have failed.

I opened the LaCie Ehernet Big Disk drive and there are 2 SATA HardDrives attached in a RAID0 configuration.

When I attached them separately to the pc, the BIOS immediately recognize them for what they are.

There is important data on the disk that i want to salvage.
    The enclosure is the problem.

I suspect that the RAID configuration is hardware managed by the enclosure.

My question is: Do i enable RAID in BIOS when connecting broken RAID drives?

Thanx a lot for your suggestions!

I connected ethernet lan cable and usb cable to LaCie Big Disk.

I did download all of the above suggestions and double-clicked on "Ethernet Disk mini & Big Disk USB Driver Win", resulting in the disappareance of the exclamation point behind the Ethernet Big Disk in the device manager.

But still I am not seeing any Ethernet Big Disk appear.

Next I double-clicked on IPconfigurator but am still not able to access the Big Disk with network.

Please tell me What more to do?

And where do the other ones I downloaded (update-1.0.10.signed & Ethernet_Disk_update- signed) come into action?

    Your proposed solution did work.

I am finally now able to see the Big Disk in my network.

    God Bless You!

and also accept my Heartfelt Blessings.

Interesting, it shouldn't need much of a driver with Windows 7. How are you attaching the device to your computer, directly, or through your network with a network cable?

Strange, it shouldn't need any driver at all. Is this drive brand new? It sounds like you may have a bad drive on your hands here. Did you try doing the windows update to search for drivers? Go into device manager... go to the drive details, update driver, and let it search online.

If it can't find anything that means the drive has failed.

Ok that would confirm then that the actual enclosure has failed. I hope there wasn't any important data on the drives. These Lacie drive enclosures are trouble, I have seen many many of them fail.

I have also confirmed that Windows 7 has a built in driver for the device so the only reason it wouldnt load a driver would be the enclosure has failed and is sending irregular instruction sets to the computer, have seen this numerous times.

At least the drives themselves are fine, was it hardware raid-0 meaning the enclosure manged the raid or was it software based? If software you can just rejoin them in windows and hopefully get your data back.

Unable to detect cdrom after crash / reinstall Vista O/S

hpweb_1-2_minus.gifCheck the Windows Device ManagerDevice Manager is a Windows program that displays hardware devices installed on your computer that are currently recognized by Windows. If functioning properly, each piece of hardware has a corresponding entry in the Device Manager. If a piece of hardware is not listed, then there is a problem. There can be a variety of reasons, ranging from the easy-to-fix (such as missing or corrupted device drivers) to the more serious (such as broken or malfunctioning hardware). If your drive does not appear in Windows Explorer or there is no response from the operating system when you insert a disc, then you should check for an entry in Device Manager. This indicates whether there is a problem or not, and sets the stage for subsequent troubleshooting actions. To verify that the optical drive is listed in the Device Manager:
  1. Remove any discs that may be present from the disk drive.
  2. Click Start , type device into the search field, and then select Device Manager from the list.
  3. In the Device Manager window, expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives entry. There should be a name listed for each installed drive. If the drive is not listed or the DVD/CD-ROM drives entry does not exist and you have verified that it is listed in the BIOS , continue to the next troubleshooting item. reinstall the default device drivers Device drivers are software processes that allow Windows to use the computers hardware components. If the device driver fails or becomes corrupted, then Windows cannot properly communicate with the drive; in fact, it may not even recognize that the drive is connected at all.
Another common source of disk drive problems is that the correct device driver may have been inadvertently replaced with an incompatible one (for example, a generic driver for optical disk drives mistakenly installed by a third-party DVD burning program). In most cases, device driver problems like these can be resolved by reinstalling the default drivers and then installing any driver updates provided by HP. To reinstall the default device drivers:
  1. Click Start , right-click Computer , and then select Properties .
  2. In the System pane, click Device Manager link. If prompted, allow the computer to access the Device Manager.
  3. In Device Manager, click the plus sign c02993920.jpg (in Vista) or the arrow c02993921.jpg (in Windows 7) next to the type of driver you want to uninstall and reinstall (for example., Modems, DVD/CD-ROMs, and so on), unless a minus sign (-) is already showing.
  4. Right-click each listed driver one at a time and click Uninstall . When prompted, confirm that you want to uninstall the selected drivers. Do not restart the PC In the Device Manager pane, select any listed device and click the Scan for hardware changes button (near the top). Windows scans your system for hardware and installs default drivers for anything that requires drivers.
    1. Open Device Manager and verify that your device drivers are listed once again.
    2. After the device drivers have been reinstalled and appear in Device Manager, try running your program again.
NOTE:Some devices may require your computer to restart. Windows will notify you when restarting is necessary. Save all open files and allow the computer to restart.
If reinstalling the default drivers does not correct the problem, continue to the next troubleshooting item.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.

Installation issue - Not recognizing

hmm, no problem plugging in either side, just be sure to do the power cable first. What's doing the beep, beep?

Found a guy who had similar prob, here was his solution:
Go to Control Panel. Click on Device Manager.
Check to see if FreeAgent is shown as a disk drive.
If not, check the device list for any Free Agent device, double click and check driver. No driver installed? Update does not work? On the driver tab….click uninstall device.
Shut down computer. Unplug Free agent USB and power at the drive.
Reboot computer. As it is rebooting, plug in the power cord. Wait a minute or two….then plug in USB cord.

Windows will “found new device” ….. Just let the computer complete the reboot.
Then go to the device manager. Chances are you will find Free Agent in the drives….and in the USB list of devices. Open windows explorer….and you should see you Free Agent as a drive.
Windows will ask you to install manufacturer disk. You have no disk…non needed. Windows has installed the device. Just click on close. I you keep getting windows wants to install device…..ignore it. You can click on “don’t ask again”. (That is if your Free Agent drive is showing in the device manager as a disk…and in windows explorer….along with your other drive or drives.)
If at some later time….your Free Agent drive does not appear….repeat the steps as listed above.
(You may think it is not working….or that it has gone bad. Try this before you try to return.)
Seagate Tools…the new version….does not recognize to diagnose the Free Agent….
I have not tried Seagate Tools after getting the computer to recognize the drive.
I am surprised Seagate does not provide a Tool to recognize their own drives…and install and/or test Free Agent.

This does work for me with Vista. Thought I had lost the drive…. Seagate should provide a patch or a drive that Windows will recognize when you get the “found new hardware” and Windows asks you to insert manufacturer’s installation disk. I do not understand why that is not already there….a driver file for Free Agent...that Windows would install.

I did not buy Pro….because I did not need the backup software. I wonder if those who bought Pro are having these problems.

How do i get stuff into my new driver? just bought a newusb ext hd.500gb. i've looked in the handy dandy users guide, but no help there.

WHen you connect it, it should appear as a disk drive in Windows Explorer (type Windows key + e ).
If you cannot see a drive letter then try My Computer - right-click - properties - Manage - click on disk manager and see if you can see the USB disk.
If Windows does not detect the USB device when you connect it - check Device Manager in COntrol Panel - SYstem - Dev Man - Hardware to see if all USB drivers are installed
