Question about Hamilton Beach BrewStation 47214 Coffee Maker

1 Answer

As coffee exits the BrewStation, it comes out in a weak flow at first, then it starts to run down the back missing the cup. Coffee runs down to the base. Must tilt the entire assembly to get some coffee. Can I buy a replacement discharge filter to allow a smoother flow?

The filter screen at the release valve is clogged with scaled coffee. You need twist and pop it out and clean with a steel wire brush and then pop it back in place.

all this did was rip my filter. looks to me that you need to just bite the bullet and buy another one. we did. 3rd one in 10 years. gotta love our disposable products! should be able to pop it out and clean it. no $$.

We had the same problem and I just fixed it. I wasn't able to "twist and pop" the filter screen at the release valve (and was concerned given theron621's caution about ripping the filter.) Determined to get it clean, here's what I did. It took me about 30 mins start to finish but that included time to find this website and experiment. If it happens again, I could do it in 5-10 mins:
-gather and clean the following supplies: tiny straight-edge screwdriver, tweezers
-unplug the unit, take the tops off, and empty/rinse the cannister
-flip cannister over and (carefully!) pop out the white valve and tiny spring with your hands
-using tweezers, pull the tiny black rubber washer out from underneath the filter
-clear filter using a strong stream of hot water (I "power washed" the filter from both sides using our showerhead since the sink sprayer was not strong enough)
-once clear, turn cannister back over and pop white plastic valve back on
-fit small black washer onto top of valve and place spring back in place
-here's the trick - CAREFULLY push valve and washer back through the hole. Using the screwdriver, inch the washer back into the hole. You are trying to secure the washer back underneath the filter (to hold the valve in place) without tearing it, breaking anything, etc.
-check to see if cannister holds water, you may have to pop the valve back out and do it again to ensure both the spring and washer are in place

ALL DONE! It sounds more complicated than it is. I am not a handy "wife" at all and I did this while the hubby and son were outside swimming!

Brew station is extremely slow, suspect it needs cleaning.

You can run a cup of vinegar through the machine. Run it just as you would making coffee, except without the coffee. Run water through the cycle at least twice to remove sediment and the vinegar. Works like a charm.

HAMILTON BEACH BREWSTATION LEAKS FROM SPOUTS

I had the same problem with this same machine. On this model there is a spring-loaded piece of plastic that operates the pouring of the coffee. After a few months of regular use, there is a design flaw in this piece that wears out prematurely, causing the pour to slow down. This is why the stream runs towards the machine and not in your cup.

Eventually the plastic piece will break at the weak point and will stop pouring altogether. To make matters worse, HB uses a weird screw that you cannot turn unless you have the right bit, and, once you do finally get to the piece, there is no where to order a replacement.

Summary: Hamilton Beach built an intentional flaw that is difficult/impossible to repair so you will need to purchase another machine in under a year.

It sounds like your exit needle is clogged. Take a paperclip, unfold it, and run it through the exit needle to get out the grounds that are clogging it.

My Keurig B60 is Suddenly Brewing WEAK Coffee

I don't have a solution but have just experienced the same problem and am baffled. I am using the same beans same grind. In fact using the exact same grind it went from great one day to weak the next day.  I always run it for 15 - 16 secs to get the shot and that hasn't changed. Pressure and temperature appear fine. I cleaned the top of the top filter which was a little dirty but not seriously bad - no change. The coffee flow which is normally chocolate coloured to start with is just mid brown.

Senseo machine has started producing very weak coffee

I don't know if you've tried this, but it works like gangbusters for me. I use non-senseo pods with the 2-pod holder, and they're too big for the 1-pod holder but not quite big enough for the 2-pod one.

I would frequently end up with a lousy, weak cup of coffee, and after a little investigation I deduced that water was flowing into the pod holder and AROUND the pod, without going THROUGH the pod directly. The name-brand senseo pods fit perfectly, and always produce a strong cup, even if I don't like their coffee, and it's because there's such a tight seal between where water flows in and where it flows out.

Simple solution: Put your pod in with the flat part facing up, and the bulgy part facing down. Press it down hard into the 2-cup holder. Run a little HOT tap water, and lightly wet the surface of the pod--not so much water that the pod starts floating in the holder, but enough to get it soggy. Then make your cup of coffee. The water will flow through the pod first, and kind of like siphoning gas through a hose, once it's started going through the pod it won't stop. Instant awesome cup.

some of these coffee makers have feed tubes, which can be seen in the rear water reservoir, that feed the hot water to the grounds. some of these tubes collapse when the boiling water passes through them , then kink , causing the water to stop flowing untill it either cools or is straightened. To check and see if this is occuring.. look in the back reservoir, if there's a tube running through it, note how soft it gets as it starts to brew.. be careful the water inside the tube is hot.. This indentify why it stops brewing partway though..

Coffee is weak

Check where the water comes out under the brew filter. It sounds like you may be missing the sprayhead. It is a round metal or plastic piece that is screwed on to the water dispense area and acts like a little showerhead forcing water evenly over the coffee grounds. If it is missing, the coffee will be weak. Check the water temperature. If it isn't hot enough, the coffee will be weak.
