Question about RCA L32HD31 32 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

I have a RCA L32HD31YX12. I have had the tv for a little over a year, and now there is no sound. The tv comes on and everything seems to work properly, but no sound is coming from the all. What could be the problem? Thanks!

    Hello, Thanks for commenting!

This may sound dumb, but I am not real sure what an AV receiver is... sorry.

I do have sound, but it is from my surround sound, not from the tv. The tv has an output for headphones. So, I bought one of those RCA(White/Red) to headphone jack cables. Then I plug in the red/white end into the surround sound. This works good, but I would like to have sound coming from my tv again.

Also, I have a satellite receiver, and a xbox 360 plugged in to the tv....and no sound is made from the either....

  • weslee_masse Oct 09, 2010

It is a dish satellite receiver. It is connected to the tv through the audio/video input using the red/white/yellow cable

  • weslee_masse Oct 09, 2010

I looked at the manual, and my menu does not look exactly like that, but it is close. It doesn't have the equalizer, and it doesn't say surround it say SRS. However, the SRS was already set to Off.

I personally think there is something wrong with the speakers or something. I think this because even with nothing plugged in except a regular antenna (to watch local channels) no sound comes out. (I unplugged everything today and plugged in an antenna just to see if that did anything) I have played around with the sound setting, but nothing seems to work.

  • weslee_masse Oct 09, 2010

Well, I opened up the tv today, but I did not know what I was looking for so I closed it back up. I am currently watching it (sound through my surround sound). How much would a main board be?

Thanks in advance for choosing Fixya for assistance.

I would like to make a clarification request , before I present my possible solution to

your problem,

Does it happen on all TV inputs ? or just on the tuner?

Have you tried connecting the TV audio out to your AV Receiver or similar just

for initial troubleshooting?

If it happens to produce sound on your AV receiver , then Congrats...

you have just troubleshooted a large percentage on electronic circuits

inside the TV ( even without opening it up ).

I can post further , while I await for your answer , to resolve the problem

you are having and post if you can further DIY ( inside the unit )

here is a copy of your manual :

refer to page 26 for checking on the audio settings.

AV Receiver means an Audio Video receiver , it could be any brand that you may have

Since headphones is OK , then at least the problem is minimal, could just be the settings

( audio ) and I hope it is not the amp or associated circuits like speaker

an AV receiver is something that have a separate speaker ( on most big speakers )

On your satellite receiver , how is it connected to your TV?, is it from the RF ant IN or from the TV

AV ( Audio-Video ) Input , and what kind of cable have you used?

    thanks for the info,

more details on page 26 of the manual

    some of it,

Surround >>>>on / off , set it to Off

it might cost you more ,( Main Board ) than if you have an AV receiver

But AV receiver is more costly if you do not have one,

do you have other stereo amplifier in there?

Or can you be able to open the unit ? to be precise on what to check for?

A simple computer speaker can do the trick , by connecting it on your TV headphones

jack , more cheaper than the solutions above

( Only if you can hear sound on your headphones )

    Before ordering anything :

    here are sample troubleshooting:

a ) Start with the input , then to the op-amp IC. b ) check your cable like those above for co

these may not be exactly like yours, but the process in troubleshooting is the same.

    you may need a multimeter

need to measure voltages on the speaker terminal, referencing the chassis as the ground

( meaning negative of your multimeter ) and post voltages on it.

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Oct 09, 2010

Post voltages ( speaker terminal ) when:

    a) speaker is connected

b ) speaker is disconnected ( one terminal only )

Post voltages on the SP ( speaker out to your speaker )

    a ) when it is connected ( speaker )

b ) when one terminal is disconnected

Output of SP have two ( 2 ) terminals on each

you may have to measure each output separately

Connect ( or clip ) the negative probe of your multimeter ( set to Volts ) on the chassis

    when measuring for voltages

and keep one hand in your pocket

Hi I have a RCA Model L32HD31YX12 tv and cannot find the code to set up on a universal remote.

You might try this, worked for my Comcast remotes:
Code for Comcast Remote Control is 13183
Code for Voice Control Remote Control is 12292, however when you go thru the automated process of programming your TV you need to select TCL as your TV brand. Do not select RCA for Voice Control Remotes.

I have a RCA L32HD31YX12 TV. The TV works fine for a half hour and then the screen flickers and goes black. The sound continues. If I turn the set off for a half hour, it works again for another half

You have answered your own question, someone needs to open it and find a loose plug or broken solder connection--if it reacts to being tapped on that is the issue- a physical problem inside.

I've had a rca model l32hd31yx12 and recently began to get white vertical lines after a minute they fade but certain screen changes like volume adjustments and the lines come back and fade again same thing...

Sounds like the power supply has filtering issues, in other words bad capacitors. its best to have a tv shop take a look at it. they shouldn't charge you. good luck

Commonly for RCA tv's if the screen went out,,the problem will be the CATHODE RAY TUBE,it is costly to buy.if you want you can buy it,,or it may be the D-board problem will be also,,,

You should check to see if the sound is really coming from the TV- you may have the sound from the directTV cable box composite audio red and white RCA connectors.

Try connecting from the audio out of the TV to the stereo

Try the menu and see if you can adjust vertical and horizontal hold.

unplug tv for 10 minutes - tehn try again.

change battery in remote, if the remote does not seem to work

good luck

When our tv does this,it seems like it's warming up. Sometimes it will eventually come on. Sometimes not. We discovered by accident that turning the floor fan on it (towards the back) helps.I didn't think it was that dusty back there, yet it seems to make a difference.
