The colors on the screen seem to have separated vertically, especially on the right side of the screen, I can't find any way to fix it with the remote and have checked out the back of the tv, I have no idea what all that stuff is for. Is there a manual or something????

  • momma2kids Jun 08, 2008

The black box on the back that I think controls the projection lights (red, green, blue) and focus, has now started popping off and we lose the complete picture, it will come back on for a few seconds if we shut the TV off and turn it back on. The box says "sanyo-JBBR 54945198" on it.

I cannot get the blue convergence on my philips 55pp935217 to line up. the red is fine and the center of the blue will adjust but the top right and middle left will not adjust at all. is this a board...

You have a bad convergence IC. I would recommend replacing both. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, how to correct it and where to get the parts. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating!!!

Red, green, and blue lines at bottom of screen, mirror looking effect, also looks like 3D. Got at a garage sale so no manual.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

How do I aling colors: the red and blue colors are not align making the tv look distorted.

On my Hitachi there's a convergence button on the front panel. Press that button which will give you red & blue lines. You have to use your remote to converge (align) those lines to correct the picture. If the lines won't converge I've been told it could be a bad convergence IC & tech is needed to fix...could be approx $300 to fix.

Phillips tv , double vision,

You have bad convergence IC's. Replace both the red and blue drive chips. They are easy to spot. They are mounted to large, finned heat sinks. The # on the chips starts with "STK-" and then there are numbers following. Both red and blue use the same part. There are 20 or so pins to unsolder\solder. These parts are available to the consumer from tritronicsinc.com. Good Luck!!

Converence

green is fixed so you have to move red and blue to green.
by using the remote you may find a simple converge function and open this and using arrow keys move the blue or red first to center of screen, repeat for other color you should see the lines moving toward a a white center point.

if the lines do not move with remote try manual ...menu on the set. if still no movement you have a problem on the convergence board and need a tech to fix.

A service manual will explain complex convergence to the detail .
but this might take hours to get it right.

No sounds like the blue CRTs coolant has congealed and thats whats giving you the trouble. the blue tube get congealed and will cause the blue to not even show up properly in the convergence menu

Green dot in middile of my screen

The green dot in the center sounds like a burn mark on one or more of the picture tubes inside the set, and the curved lines are telling me that you have a problem in the convergence circuits. The blue haze around everything white tells me you either have a lot of dust build up on the lens over the CRTs, or your picture tube(s) are very weak. If this set is over about 12 years old, I would replace it. I doubt if you will be able to get the green dot out of the picture without changing the tubes which would be VERY expensive.
