Routers which sit on a desk don't require software on the pc. Do you mean a wireless adapter that you plug into a usb port?

Are you trying to set up router ?
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

was the router used by previous users? or did you buy it? if it was used then it was probably configured for different ISP. You don't need any CD. Just connect to the router via your browser (probably http://192.168.1.1) and adjust settings in WAN section.

How can i reset my Linksys Wireless-G2.4GHZ Broadband Router settings

Try to reset the router. This should resolve your problem. That model has a small hole were you must press with some a paper clip for exemple for a few seconds. This will reset the router to its original state.

WRK54G as a repeter

Okay, if it is a wireless repeater, you simply cannot, the WRK does not have such capabilities, but WIRED, that may work.

By default the routers IP is 192.168.1.1, so turn off the DHCP of the WRK, then change the IP to 192.168.1.something else. for the cable routings, from the primary router's ethernet cable should be plugged in to any LAN port of the 2nd router.

then you can relocate the 2nd router to where it has to be as long as the cable reaches it (not longer than 200 feet)

for the wireless settings, just make a different wireless networks for both routers.

if you have other questions just lemme know

Linksys wrk54g setup

Many routers have a hole in them; stick a paper clip in, and it will reset itsef to its defaults. Go to linksys online to get the info you need--it will tell you it's default settings, and you can download the instructions. If you have DSL cable, the router will detect its settings automatically. Remember to encrypt it, or any one of your neighbors can use it to connect to the internet wirelessly. You won't have to bother if you connect through a cable to your pc.

Linksys WRK54G versus WRT54G Firmware

Hi...

The WRK54G is actually a stripped down version of the WRT54G that was bundled with a wireless network adapter and sold under the kit name WKPC54G.

From what you say in your question I gather that you have a WRT54G already in place as your access point, and it is what is connected to your WAN. To use the WRK54G as a range extender repeater you should do the following:

1. Turn off DHCP
2. Turn off NAT
3. Assign a fixed IP that is in your Class C Block
4. Define the WRT54G as the Gateway

With this configuration it now should function as an extender/repeater, and any clients connecting to it will be serviced by the DHCP on the master router.

I hope that this helps.
