Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I also have what appears to be a common problem with a Philips 42FD9954/17s: it doesn't want to turn on when it's cold. It wouldn't turn on last winter, worked fine all summer, and started malfunctioning again once the weather cooled off last month. I saw where some folks have taken the back off the TV and warmed up the power supply board (Philips Part #312235721971) with a hair dryer to get their TV to turn on. I did this and mine fired right up. To confirm, I let the power supply board cool off and could only get the TV to turn on again by rewarming it with the hair dryer. My rookie opinion is that the power supply board is bad. My question for the experts is: would I be better off sending my board to an online repair service or could I do just as well buying a refurbished board from an online electronics parts store? Would reinstalling a repaired original part work better, the same, or worse than a refurbished part? Do repaired or refurbished boards work OK right off the bat or is professional fine-tuning required? Could the problem be something else? Thanks in advance for your advice!

All boards that sell online stores are refurbishes boards, not new boards.Find out ur tv make and model number.Look inside the board for the serial numbers on the board and buy the same board and install it.Just turn it on,no fine tuning require.Tries websites like, to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.

You should try to repair the player using Philips Device Manager. The procedure that you should do is described detailed step by step at the manufacturer's web site:

At first select the category "communication with the PC" and follow the instructions you get there.
Finally you will get to the state "repair function" and you will be able to hope successful action.
Good luck!

I would say yes, if it wouldn't let the car run, then yes the wire may be frayed now, repair the wires first and eliminate that problem . then have the codes read,

Our Hoover (3535d) dryer tumbler does not want to spin although you can hear the motor starting. The load does not appear to matter. There is no sign of belt slipping. Can the problem be due to the start...

If you hear the motor starting then it normally wouldn't be the start capacitor. It is when it doesn't start that you suspect the capacitor.

If your motor is turning and belt is NOT slipping then your drum should be turning! Those things do tell you that your electronic (control board and timer) are good, but you are wrong about either the motor or the belt!

Im trying to take the bottom off my blender but noticed a wierd looking screw, how do i take it off?

I have no idea of the configuration of the screw head that you're looking at, as you didn't see fit to give us any discription, however, it probably wouldn't have made any difference because there are 5 - 7 different configurations of screw heads used that are not the normal slotted or philips head screws. They are used in or rather before, a part that, when removed, would let you go places in the appliance that the manufacturer doesn't want the common customer to be. They don't feel there are any parts inside the motor cavity that you could repair, or diagnose, so you shouldn't be in there. There are screwdriver tips available, but only from major parts distributors and they make sure that you either are employed by, or are in the repair business yourself before they will sell to you.
I also have no idea of what brand of a unit you're talking about, but during my last trip through the small appliance aisle at my local Wal-Mart, I'm pretty sure I saw blenders on sale for right around the $15 - $17 mark. A 2 slice toaster was $8.99. It's at the point where it makes about as much sense to just go buy a spare for everything in your kitchen in the way of cooking, or preparation tools and then just throw the old one out when it quits.

Which is better between plasma and LCD or even OLED/LED?

Panasonics appear to be the best, along with Sony and Samsung. Stay away from Philips tv's along with the other obscure brands. Philips tv's seem to be built to last about a year or two and then go out, the most common problems being not turning on [typically on their plasmas.] Philips doesn't like to send parts to their service center. The off brand tv's don't usually have parts available. There is a reason for the low price. U get what U pay for. Philips has been the biggest ripoff due to their high prices for their short lasting tv sets.
