    Neither worked.

  • karol_928 Oct 09, 2010

still didn't work. The ink system failure comes up the minute you turn it on. I know it was hardly used by my friend, so guess I will have to contact hp. Thanks for your input.

First try this :

  • Press the On button to turn the all-in-one off.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the all-in-one.
  • Remove all the ink cartridges.
  • Wait two minutes.
  • Plug the power cord into the back of the all-in-one.
  • Press the On button to turn the all-in-one on.
  • Install the ink cartridges when prompted.

Now check if the error persists or not.

If the error message still shows on the lcd, then try resetting the printer:
  • Use the On button to turn on the product.
  • Remove the power cord from the product.
  • Press and hold the # and 6 buttons.
  • While holding the buttons down, connect the power cord to the product.
  • Continue to hold the buttons down until the color graphics display becomes blank, then release the buttons. Use the On button to turn on the product. The reset information appears on the color graphics display.

Sometimes cleaning the whole printer component including the paper passage, cartridges' gold contacts, moving the carriage, etc...fix this issue. If you still need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

    Then try this...

Remove all the cartridges, clean the contact points on the cartridges and on the printer using soft brush/cotton dipped in alcohol/acetone /spirit.

While the cartridges are kept for drying, do the following:

Turn it off > Disconnect usb cable, power cord, inthernet cable; >remove the papers from the tray >open the back panel door (the rear door where you clear paper jam). Also turn off the mains switch which the dc adapter is plugged in. After keeping it Off for about 5 minutes, turn on the printer again with only the power cord connected, keep tapping the cancel button while it boots up and again leave it On for few minutes > turn it off > connect all the cables > again turn it On and keep pressing the power button while it boots up. Now you can install the cartridges. Check the status message. It should work fine now.

(Note: press the Cancel button while you install the cartridge/s)

If the problem persists, there must be internal hardware/firmware problem and will be needed to call for service.

    Good luck.

As always I start with the dreaded question. Did you use a refilled cartridge in your printer? If so, remove it and install a new HP cartridge. Recycled cartridges are famous for this type of failure. By the way the error code is a Windows error code. If you haven't found a solution to the " ink system failure " yet, it is quite easy to reset (using the buttons) on HP C7180. You can find the reset instructions on my website: http://www.inkbank.com.au/webcontent21.htm

I am getting a error message saying the printer does not have enough ink to ensure printer health. The empty ink cartridge must be replaced to resume printing. I replaced the cartridges and it does not...

These printers have been known to have ink system failure errors. This message can also be caused by using compatible or re-manufactured cartridges. We believe the HP Live update software is also responsible for "dobbing" on you if you use any other brand.
A Fix for the ink system failure can be found below Not sure if it will help with your particular error but it wont hurt to try.

Try updating your drivers first:
Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers. Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files.
