Take the cartridge out and swab the sticky gook up with an alcohol soaked piece of cloth. Wear rubber gloves because you can't avoid getting the ink on you. Replace with a new cartridge.
Turn the printer off then on. Do a test page.

To know when ink needs rep

With compatible ink you will just have to watch for colors fading. HP software supports only HP ink, so the ink monitoring software will not function with compatible cartridges

Printer will not align

Print cartridge

When the print cartridge contacts are dirty and the printer cannot detect/communicate with print cartridge.

Clean the contact points on the cartridges with a dry, lint-free cloth.

1. Open the top cover of the printer.

2. Remove the print cartridges.

3. Clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges with a damp, lint-free cloth.
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove moisture from the contacts.

5. Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

6. Close the top cover.

7. Try printing again.

If you still cant communicate try with new cartridge .

I have a 7960 photosmart printer when i turn it on it goes to a screen which states" Cartridge service is stuck press ok" Ive taken out all jammed paper removed back panel saw no additional paper. it also...

the automatic cartridges cleaning is stuck, probably a mechanism dead or maybe a bit a dirt from ink splash. open it and try to clean it and check for any weird thing, you can do some cleaning but the mechanism need some greassy spot so do not be too clean. Cleaning with water.
There is also a thin small plastic band as long as the printer that the printer head use as guide, It's like a scale but transparent. Clean that one too. Try to run it when the printer is open, you will have to puch some button to make it run. you might see where the problem come from...
cheers

Recalibrating a refilled black ink cartridge for a photosmart 7960

your printer probably cannot recognize one of both cartridges
clean the contacts of the cartridges and the contacts of the cartridge carrier  with a wet towel
if that does nt work your ink cartridge has probably overheated  because air has left in the cartridge after refilling and must be replaced
check here the right way for refilling

HP psc 2110 Printer keeps telling me to Align print cartridges. I follow the steps but it always comes up alignment failed and starts printing Instruction page all over again. I can print from my computer...

Press the cancel button. Then press the "setup" and top "copy option" buttons together to enter maintenance. Use the right arrow (right copy option) button to scroll through the options if you like, but then hit the cancel button to skip the alignment.

Cartridge 57 failed

Brenda Walker on August 18, 2009

I think I may have solved this problem. What I did was take out the #56 cartridge and hit the print button. It started to calibrate and then said it was printing on reserve or something? Yup, it printed with only one (#57 cartridge). After that, I stuck in a new #56 cartridge and so far so good for it only happened yesterday.

I hope this solves your cartridge #57 failed problem. Let me know if it does.

Make sure the cover that holds the ink cartridge in place is completely closed down on the cartridge. Also make sure there is not a pencil or something under the cover where the ink is , obstructing the print head
