Does the unit turn on when connected to an external power source? If not then the power switch is not the problem.

Touch screen doesn't respond. Garmin had me do everything including usb port to upgrade. After 45 minutes on the phone doing everything they said to do, they told me the unit was no longer able to...

The touchscreen is critical in using the Nuvi 660 - without there's no way to diagnose the problem from the outside. USB communication can still work, making software updates possible as far as it goes.

If it's not under warranty - opening the Nuvi 660 is a path to consider. Preferably by someone who's experienced with opening Garmin devices or (smart) phones. The Nuvi backcover is fitted with Hex / Torque screws - and is relatively easy to open with the right tools.

First area to look for is the flat cable connector of the touchscreen - reinserting the flatcable in the Printed Circuit Board connector. Be sure to disconnect the battery first. After reinserting the cable - connect the battery and try again if the touchscreen now works.

If the problem remains - clean the unit with pressured air - possibly removing contamination/dust causing (capacitive) shorts.

Screen frozen. Tried located and deleting GUPATE.GCD file. Will not respond to touching center of dot. Tried all recommendations. Also, update software, all to no avail. Unit is NUVI 660

This is a common problem caused by a certain style of touchscreen being used. There is conductive silver ink/paint borders around the outside of the touchscreen that fracture
due to heat. The touchscreen can not be repaired and must be replaced with a style that does not have this issue. Please see this link for more information
as there is just too much info to copy and paste here.

This is a common problem due to certain style of touchscreen that is known to fail due to temperature. if you can not recalibrate the screen, then the touchscreen needs to be replaced. More information, including the recalibration procedure can be found here:

Previosly I have done a reset to get the nuvi 666 touch screen responding again, but I don't recall the procedure can you assist>

You should not be having to constantly reset the Nuvi to make the touchscreen operational. The touchscreen is defective and needs to be replaced. I've replaced over a thousand 660 touchscreens and through my experience, a non-responsive touchscreen is caused by a defective touchscreen.

My Nuvi 660 does not respond to my touch on the screen. I ordered Safety Camera download today and did the download, now I have the problem

This is not caused by the download or any firmware issue. It's caused by a flakey touchscreen.

To calibrate the touchscreen on a nuvi 300 or 600 series:
  1. Power the unit On.
  2. From the Where to? / View map screen, touch Settings (wrench icon).
  3. Touch Display.
  4. Touch Recalibrate.
  5. A new screen will display that says Press Dot.
  6. Touch the center of the dot.
  7. Keep touching the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
  8. When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.
The touchscreen will now be recalibrated.

If your touchscreen is not responding to any touch and preventing you from recalibrating the touchscreen using the instructions above, please follow the steps below:
  1. Connect your nuvi to your computer with a compatible USB cable.
  2. Open the Garmin Nuvi drive located in MyComputer/Computer. (Note: Mac users can locate the Garmin Nuvi drive icon on the Desktop.)
  3. Open the Garmin folder.
  4. Locate and delete the GUPDATE.GCD file.1
  5. Safely disconnect your nuvi from your computer.
  6. Power the nuvi Off.
  7. Power the nuvi on by holding the power button.
  8. Continue holding the power button down for 1-2 minutes until the screen calibration option displays.
  9. Touch the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.
  10. When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.

The touchscreen will now be recalibrated and should respond properly.

Touch screen locked and not responding. Nuvi 660

The touchscreen is intermittent and needs to be replaced. If your unit has a serial # that starts with "12P", "14V" or "143" then you have a style of screen that can fail without physical damage to the screen or glass. Please see this link:
