Question about RCA D52W20 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I recently picked up a television from someone that was having trouble with it turning off/on by itself and found a capacitor solder joint that had burned out completely, expanding the pcb hole to nearly 1/6" in diameter. Is it crucial that I fill the hole with epoxy or would it be fine to just clean it up and run a bus wire from the trace?

Do both for best performance, fill the hole with epoxy and clean it up and run a bus wire from the trace.

Will plastic epoxy alone be fine or should I get an f4 rod to fill it? Also, the hole is kinda nestled between many components of course, what is the best/easiest way to clean the burn/carbon off the pcb?

Used the plastic epoxy alone should be fine. Just used a small flat scew driver, scrapes the burn/carbon off of the PCB.Use a run a bus wire from one trace to another trace.

My TV is turning on an off itself with loud noise

The problem is most likely BAD OR DAMAGED SOLDER JOINTS between components and PCB...
it may be in power supply or motherboard..
please carefully check each and every solder joints, please use a magnifieng lens to observe the pcb for dry solders.
you must re-solder all the damaged joints..

Found a Vizio VO42L By the dumpster and want to try and repair it. I plug it in and the orange logo lights up, press power and it turns on and the logo lights up white but picture flickers with horion

Sounds like it might be a solder joint. use the meter and check the ohms on each side of the solder joints on the board where the serial cables connect to the boards. it would be a good idea to check as many joints as you have time to. If it is a LED TV check Led control board for bad joints. if it uses Flourocarbon tubes check the transisters on each lighting control board. you may only have one board working causing partial back lighting.

My sylvania lc190sl1 changes channels by itself, goes thriugh the settings and will not turn off.

You likely have a power supply problem. You can take it in, or remove the back panel and inspect the capacitors on the power supply. Sometimes they will bulge if bad. If you find bulged capacitors, replace them with similar values using 105C temperature rated low ESL capacitors. You could also look for cold solder joints where the solder has loosened from the component leads.

Samsung TV model LN32A450C1DXZA, after turning the TV on it will turn itself off shortly after and then turn itself back on shortly thereafter. Then it repeats that several times before staying on.

Hi there,

If the tv is still under warranty, this can be repaired at no charge.

However, if not under warranty, you will need to have the CAPACITORS on the main power supply circuit board tested (or replaced).

The capacitors responsible for the power supply can sometimes fail - open the back panel. If the capacitors on the main power supply board look too fat, or signs of burning near the solder joints, then you've found the problem.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Scott

My TV turns itself off and on by itself,

If you're having the TV set completely turn off, then on, which will be accompanied by audible relay clicks, then this is a problem relating to bad solder connections on the main or convergence boards which will require someone with a sharp eye and savvy with a soldering iron. Most of the time, bad solder joints will be around the convergence amplifiers or in the high voltage section.

LG 50 PS 3000 tv will not turn on. Flashes a picture then turns itself off

Since your TV comes on and shuts off, the possiblity of the main power developing a fault on switch on to shut off as the error amp is asking it to do so.. Please check for any failure of capacitors in the HT section. use a multimeter and test voltage on switch on. make a note and test after it switches off. you will slowly arrive at the point of trouble. look for dry solder joints. use a good iron to carefully solder all joints suspected to look mushy. check the connectors of the HT drives to the panel. there could be fault in the connection resulting in slow build up and causing the error amp to react to shut off. Hope my advice helps. Good day

This TV constantly shuts itself off.

The issue has been resolved. I removed the back of the TV (pretty easy actually) by laying a blanket over the kitchen table and placing the TV face down. I started with the power supply as an obvious beginning. Both fuses on the board tested fine. And touched up every solder joint with a hot soldering iron in case the problem was a cold solder joint. After this painstaking venture, I performed another visual inspection and noticed a capacitor that had a thin black X on the top of the can. This is a common sign the capacitor has over heated. I located a replacement for $1.20, installed, and successfully powered up the TV. I have had no problems since.
Oh, yeah, I also paid $120 for a BN44-00150A replacement power supply, plus overnight shipping. It actually arrived three weeks later. That was two weeks and six days after I fixed the power supply myself.

Samsung LNS4041D will not turn on

My Samsung LN-S4041d starting clicking and within two days would not turn on. I found an article online concerning the same problem with leaking capaictors. I pulled out the motherboard and my capacitors cm812,cm811,cm817, cm806 were leaking and/or bulged. I went to radio shack and purchased 4 1000uf 35v replacements. It took about 45 minutes to install, which I had never done before, and the TV works perfectly. It cost me $1.59 for each capacitor, $9 for a soldering iron, and $4 for rosin-core solder. Hope this helps your situation.
