Cyberhome dvr 1600 dvd recorder

This unit has worked very well until today when suddenly it went completely off.

I have checked the power cord/replaced it but the unit remains completely off (dead) - apart from a pulsating whine whilst the power cord is attached, which then fades off (& goes slower) when the power cord is detached.

I have taken the lid off and checked the internal thermal fuse which is OK
and there is no reset button etc. anywhere. Until it went off it was playing/recording perfectly.

I can not play many of my dvd's on any other machine (even my computer)
as they had not been 'finalized' (but could still play on the dvr 1600).

I hope that there is a solution !

the samw problem. When the power cord is attached, it feels like the unit is alive, but no display and any kind of sign of working mode.

    Thanks,

The most likely source is the power board in the unit. If you remove the lid, you will see the power board siting off the side of the DVD tray. Look closely at the board and you will notice 5 cylinder type capacitors that are black with silver tops. If the tops are not exactly flat, but look like they are bulging, then the capacitors need to be changed.

The capacitors are: 10v 2200uf 105-Degree Capacitors.

The symptoms are: the unit will not power up immediatly. If the power is connected and the unit left for a few minutes, it may show the timer after while, and power on, however, it will not work correctly. I have even been able to put in a DVD and it be recognized at first, then fail.

If you need help, email me.

There is a known problem for these devices to fail like this after a period of time. I had the same problem and had to replace some capicitors inside the unit. If you are not up to doing something like this than I will say find an electronic geek who would open the unit for you and check the capacitor s on the powerside unit.
else you may want to contact me to do the repair for [email protected]

Suddenly went dead whilst playing DVD....checked fuse but that wasnt problem

HELLO

The main problem I have found with these DVD recorders is the power supply unit is NOT up to the job. ALL the one's I have looked at have had bulging capacitors in the power supply unit.

Quality is not the watchword with these Chinese built recorders and spare parts are virtually unobtainable. My advice is to junk it and invest in a much more reliable DVD recorder.

Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD

What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible. Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either. Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.

How to reset dvd recorder to ntsc from pal

After checking today to see no one offered any suggestions - I solved the problem the hard way - I went into settings and although the screen rolled, I was finally able to click onto the ntsc setting after about a half hour of tries and once I clicked it, my screen returned to normal -- i was then able to enter the code that made the player an all region player and was happily able to play a pal dvd I received recently. The procedure was simple -- offered by a European Cyberhome user -- the company is in bankruptcy so you cannot gt help from them. Note - my Cyberhome dvr is 1500- not 1600 as you listed it.

CyberHome Manual

I just downloaded the manual yesterday from http://cms-system.cyberhome-dvd-help.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=39. All I had to do was type "cyberhome dvr 1600 manual" into Google and it was the first result that popped up. Looks like they have other manuals available for download as well.

Cyberhome DVR 1200 acting up; won't format new blank dvds; says no disk, etc

Cyberhome has gone out of business in the US. My DVR 1200 stopped working but I was able to repair some capacitors on the power supply to get it going again. You can find more support information about the 1200 and 1600 on these websites: http://cms-system.cyberhome-dvd-help.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=14183 or www.nerd-out.com and search for Cyberhome.
