Question about Canon PowerShot G11 Digital Camera

1 Answer

My new Canon G11, purchased in August,2010: 1) The camera cord (to load photos from camera to computer) is no longer interfacing, but the card works (I don't think it is the software as it malunctions on both office PC and home Macpro). Also noticed that sometimes when trying the cord, when I turn camere on, the lens comes out, which never happend when transferring photos via cord 2) I noticed shortly thereafter that the camer no longer "beeps" when the green in-focus boxes appear on hte viewing screen. But it is taking fine photos. I am just using a card reader plugged in to the computer USB for now and was going to take camera back for warranty service until I happened across your website.

It sounds to me like one or more of the wires in the cord has broken, or there is a problem with the USB port on the computer. Try swapping to the other ports to see if the problem goes away before going forward.

If the problem is present on all ports and the camera is still under warranty, I would suggest contacting Canon directly and let them solve the problem.

You could also try purchasing / borrow a cable that fits if you want to save time without a camera / dealing with Canon.

Good luck!

Formatting the card will delete all the data on it. Buy a new card for use now, then use data recovery software on your computer to try to salvage the contents of the original card.

Consider NOT plugging your camera into your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Hi,

I highly recommend that you instead consider using a card reader to move the photos or videos to your computer. Card reader's do not require software (although Windows 98 and earlier may require drivers), are very inexpensive, are much faster downloading files from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during the download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.Really, it would be better for the camera user if one of these was included with the camera instead of the cable and bundled software. You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you convert to using one of these. Also make sure that you get a reader that is clearly stated capable of reading your card, particularly if you use SD-HC, XD, CF, or MS cards.

Thank you!

Canon ixus 500 not working on win7 64bit.

This model came out before the picture transfer protocol (PTP) was developed for direct interface between digital cameras and Windows/Mac computers. Also, there are no drivers available for anything newer than Windows XP. Your best option is to purchase a USB card reader ($10 or less) that can accept a CF card. You just take the card out our your camera, plug it in to the reader, and Windows 'sees' the card as another drive on your system. You can then view and download the photos.

Pictures not loading to computer

It sounds like you don't have software on your PC that will recognize the camera when connected. I am going to recommend that you do not use the camera to upload photos. It is better practice to use external (SD) memory cards and remove them from the camera to upload. You can use a USB SD reader or purchase SD cards with a built-in USB interface. You should be able to see a new drive when connecting the SD card to your computer; then all you need to do is copy over the images. One advantage is that you will save camera battery while uploading because you dont need the camera at all. It also allows you to take images with you without taking the camera, i.e. school or work. I hope this helps...californiajones7889e54.jpg67432f4.jpg4db3d64.jpg
