HL usually means that the heater is working and there is no water passing through it, do you get a flo error message before the HL,I had the same problem, mine was the flo switch

What does HL on display panel mean

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

HL stands for high limit...it means one of the high limit switches is open, preventing the heater from working. Either the limit has failed and replacing it will correct the issue or there is a situation with the heater or flow rates causing it to truly overheat...fixing the issue will return the heater to operation.

The HL indicator light comes on and I can not get it to reset. I shut spa off and the HL light was on again when I checked an hour later. I live in Wisconsin and don't want my tub to freeze. Tub was used...

It sounds like a flow issue. When the HL comes on, its sensing a higher temp than it is supposed to. This is usually caused by bad flow in the circulation pump.

The most likely cause of the bad flow in residential spas, is a bad filter element. Even if a filter looks clean, they do get clogged with particles we cant see. To test this, make sure the spa is free of debris, and remove the filter element. Run spa for a while and see if the code comes back. If it doesnt, get a new filter.

Otherwise the pump could either be failing, or clogged. Check this next.

Finally if these dont work, check the temp sensor (thermistor) .

I have my hot tub plugged in for 3 days and the water is still cold, how long does it usually take to heat up a 8 man arctic spa?

If the cover and doors are on and everything is working then it should take no longer than about 8 hours.
It could be something simple like the heater is unplugged, or more complex like an airlock or faulty pump motor.
If you can't get service from your local Arctic Spas dealer, the head office service department can be reached through their worldwide corporate website, www.arcticspas.com

Error code reads "5n" or "Sn" on the panel. Great lakes hot tub. chuck

'Sn' is a general error message relating to the temperature sensors.

Assuming that you have a Balboa spa pack (M7 version), turn off the power and remove the spa pack cover, you'll find two temperature sensors mounted in the top of the heater tube one at each end. Follow the wiring from the sensor to the plug(s) on the PCB and check that the connections are good, they have a habit of devekoping a poor connection.

If you have a multimeter you could also check the resistance of the two sensors. They should both be the same. If they aren't the same you'll probably have to replace them.

One final thing just to check... Ensure that there are no blockages within the heater. Unless you have service/gate valves you will have to drain the hot tub, unscrew the unions and check inside the heater for debris within the heater assembly.

If you're from the UK I may be able to help regarding parts etc.

Kind Regards,
Ian.

Reads OH but still cold

you either have a bad temperature sensor (check the wires for damage) or a bad circuit board. I would recommend replacing the temp sensor first. If that doesn't work, pull the board and take it and have it tested.

Our artic spa hot-tub is showing HL in the panel and is not heating up as it should. Everything else seems fine. Why?

HL is normally a "high limit" fault. If your filter is clean and you have sufficient flow, you may have a faulty high limit sensor. It should be mounted on the heater itself. The high limit sensor shuts the heater off if it senses excessively hot water. Check to see that you have sufficient flow, clean the filter, and make sure the filter pump is running. If everything else is running properly, you may have to replace the high limit sensor.
