Question about ASUS K8N-LR Motherboard

1 Answer

K8n-lr motherboard New setup. 1st time power up and you can get to the bios (205), After that 1 long, 2 short beeps. Power down and repeat. When I get to the BIOS, I see 2 potential problems. 1. It shows the opteron as a single when it is a dual. 2. the power monitor shows all the voltages in red and they're all wrong. (ie) 5V shows 6.1V, 2.7V is 2.9V, etc.. This with 2 different new atx supplies. Any help before I get an RMA?

The voltages out of tolerance can be fixed by clearing the CMOS. This also fixes the boot beep problem however when restting the CMOS date, etc., the problem again returns.

Tried several different ram sticks without being able to fix it.

1 long beep and 2 shorts beeps indicates a problem with your RAM. If you have more than one RAM chip, remove one of them to rule out a faulty chip. If you only have one chip, remove and reseat it. For clarity, you can find the manual for your board at; http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=K8N-LR And the Asus general motherboard troubleshooting manual at; http://support.asus.com/images/document/ts/E2437_MB.zip

Long beep continuous

Hello,
here is a list of beep code for Award bios chip, which is the one present on you memory card:

repeated beeps - DRAM error
repeated short beeps - Power error
Repeated high & low beeps - Processor is damaged/Overheated

1 short - System boot successfull
2 short - CMOS setting error
1 long 1 short - DRAM or M/B error
1 long 2 short - Monitor or display card error
1 long 3 short - Keyboard error
1 long 9 short - BIOS ROM error

I don't remember the speed of the repeted beeps for the award bios.
But in your case if this is not a DRAM issue, you might try to check if the beeping remain the same once the cmos battery removed (the flat batterie that looks taken out of a watch).
If so this means that it needs to be replaced.

MSI K8N Neo V2.0 beep code problem is continous beeps.

That's usually a bad ram stick. Shut down the pc & remove one stick at a time starting with the one furthest from the cpu & work your way down to the first one. When it boots without the constant "beep", you found the bad one! You can also check www.msi.com & look in the support area for a solution if mine is wrong.(I'm never wrong though, lol)

K8N mortheboard no signal screen

HI,

In this new tower you are swttching to, does it have it's own power supply? And if so, what are the amps, and what are the amps on your old power supply? I have the K8N, and it needs at least 450W to run decent. Let me know?

System not booting, k8n

Have you tried resetting the bios? turn off the computer and remove the power cable connected to the power ATX power supply, look for the "clr_cmos" jumper and change the settings from 1-2 to 2-3 for approx. 10 secs, then return the jumpers to original settings and reconnnect the power cable and turn on the computer. This was the solution when i had the same problem before. Hope this helps you too.

Continuous short beeps on power up.Then shuts down and trys again, then repeats beep sequence. 21 beeps in total before attempts to reboot. Power - 550W Q9400 Intel ESC 9600GT Video card 8 Gig DDR2

enter bios setup and check the temperature of your mobo and cpu if it's above normal and also check the cpu fan's speed if theres no problem with these three then try to remove all the expansion cards you have then reset the memory modules if the beeping continues try a different PSU and memory modules.

I am getting 1 long beep and then 6 short ones

Hi canturob,
When a system reports a check sum error the bios is telling you the information stored from the last working boot does not match the current settings stored in the bios. Please power down your MSI system, unplug the power cord. Open the case & clear the bios. Location of JBAT1 on page 3 in manual.
Clear CMOS Jumper: JBAT1 page 10 in the manual. Remove the battery/cmos. Check it's voltage with a volt meter. It should test to 3volts DC. Anything less & the battery needs to be replaced.
While in the case re-check all data cables & power cables for good connection.
The MSI board uses the Award bios. Your current beep code of 1 long & six short is not a common beep code for the Award bios. See bios beep codes here: http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm

If the battery checks out ok, you may need to update the bios. Go to MSI: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=205
To update your MSI bios (Option only if bios clear fails to resolves the check sum issue).

Good luck canturob!

I have an Asus p4s533-mx motherboard which boots and runs fine (sometimes). But when I perform a warm boot, it often won't pass POST. The beep code is one long and two short. If I power it down and let it...

The response from ASUS tech support - It's a standard Award BIOS, so they're the standard beep codes.

So I wrote the following on page 3-4 of my user guide:

1 long + 2 short = Video adaptor error
1 long + 3 short = No video card or bad video RAM

high freq beeps while running = Overheated cpu

repeating high/low = cpu problem

repeating (endless loop) = memory error

Asus K8N-LR power problem

This is a problem within your ATX power supply . Better to get it repaired or replaced , otherwise each switch-on surge would damage your comp components eventually .
