Hello

Check that each part of the typewriter is in place and functioning properly.

Check the ribbon and make sure that it is firmly in place, that it rolls smoothly and advances properly. Make sure the scroll wheel advances up and down without hesitation.

Look at all the internal parts to make sure they're not loose or crooked. If they are, adjust them to their proper settings. Check all parts for cleanliness and clean any necessary residue from ink, dust, or other substances that might make parts jam.

Identify the part of the typewriter causing the problem like the ribbon, keys, roller, or the daisy wheel. Check all of the settings on the typewriter to be sure they are correct, such as margins, spacing and function keys.

Verify that your parts are all made to work with the model of typewriter you are using. If you are unsure if a part, such as the ribbon, is compatible, check the manufacturer's website. They will often provide comprehensive lists of items made to work with their products, and often will tell you where you can purchase them if not directly from the company itself.

Replace any necessary products, such as the ink ribbon or correction ribbon. It may not be noticeable to the naked eye, but if either ribbon will not advance any further, it has been used up. Replace the ribbon(s) in the correct position with the correct models.

I have a brothers sx-4000 typewriter, i recently bought new ink ribbon. But for some reason my typewriter still does not print the letters at all. I know my typewriter is still good, I dont know why it...

There are two things that people mess up when changing printwheels and ribbons. Is that the ribbon is not in the guides properly. The other is that the latch the holds the type wheel is not locked in the forward position.

Try typing on a mulipart form. If it types on the copies and not the orinonal the ribbon is the problem. If it dosen't type on the copies then the plastic cap on the print solenoid is broken.

We sell the cap with installation instructions for 20.00 includes shipping.

My typewriter doesn't type..won't display letters, but keys work.

alot of the brother t/w's have 2 cam assemblies under ribbon holder. 1 operates the print hammer and 1 operates the correction ribbon lift. sometimes these will hang or lockup. sometimes turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a t/w tech. if you look when you type a character, most likely the print hammer is not firing or it is striking the correction ribbon instead of the black ribbon.

When I type it is printing different letters than I am typing.

On most models there is a pitch switch 10.12.15.PS

you need to match the switch to what print wheel is in the typewriter. most common wheels are 10 or 12
move the switch to that area.

if that is not the problem take out the ribbon, corr. tape & print wheel. tuen on the typ. let it home, put the print wheel & ribbon ( Not the corr. tape) turn on let it home tray typing. if works O.K. put in the corr. tape .
Then you are good to go.
