It's most likely that your camera has a lens error, this is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Akai service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault. Although the article mentions Canon a few times, the advice applies equally to all cameras with lens errors and is not model-specific.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

Lens cleaning tissues and solutions are available in lens shops.
Try them and blowing air is best to dislodge the dust.

My camrea said focus error will not do nothing

The lens error/focus errror is due to failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. Unless you are familiar with handling of small devices must the camera be opened. If so check the voltage on the motor drive, check the auto focus and Zoom drives, it must be free with manual movement. If jammed the motor can be removed and realased. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
Get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the authorised service as you do not have to run around for spares.

Remote Control not working

take a digital camrea or a camrea phone point the remote sensor (the bit you would aim at your player) towards the lens of the camrea and look on the camrea/phone display press buttons on the remote can you see a flashing light coming from the sensor ?? if not its due too a flat battery or faulty remote if you do then its likely too be a fault with the player

Error message

This may be due to the aperture ring in your lens. Try the following:

1. Turn off your camera
2. Move the aperture ring clockwise then lock
3. Turn on your camera and try again.

If this does not work, do the same thing again but turn the aperture ring counter-clockwise.

D40 will not power up

When a charged battery is installed, the card access led on the back of the camera should blink once. If it doesnt, try resetting the camera with the small microswitch on the bottom of the camera body (opposite side from battery compartment). Failing those, have a Nikon shop look at it.
