What is the fastest compatible CPU for upgrade Asus X50GL series laptop

changing chips most time requires a mother board up date to cater for the extra chip pins
best advice here is to take it to a computer repair shop and they will be able to tell you right off if what you want to do is possible with that board
point of interest here
chips are only as fast as the hard drive and rams will work
if your unit has a disc type hard drive consider upgrading that to a solid state hard drive which handles data much much faster than a disc type
just a bit of info when you are talking to the computer geek

I would like to upgrade my Gigabyte Ga 7vm400am motherboard but I don't have much cash (does anybody??). Would a CPU upgrade make the PC very much faster ?

Depends on what you have in it at present, you can put in an XP3200 barton core which I think is the fastest chip at 2.2 GHZ. This link will give you the cpu compatibility
http://ee.giga-byte.com/products/mb/cpulist/ga-7vm400am.html

Personally, I'd keep my eye open for a half decent 775 board and chip... becoming very cheap now on ebay and sacking off the old 462 platform

Looking to get new mother board because it went on fire, old mother bd was asus P5VD1-X HAVE INTERL P-4 CHIP AND DDR 400 MEMORY THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP USING WHAT MOTHER BOARD DO YOU SUGGEST

Better to purchase new mobo, cpu n memory. Bcoz the compatible Motherboard for your CPU/Memory is no longer available. If it is available, only from the dead stock or refurbished. Better to purchase new motherboard/cpu/memory

No power, power supply seems ok,green light on mother board on. when pluged in the fan runs for a couple seconds and turns off.power button has no effect.

sounds like a mother board issue,

start with pulling out all ram chips and re try,,

then try pulling all cards out like old modem and also cdroms.

if ever thing but power is unpluged its a bad mother board or CPU chip

Yes this is the YLOD the (Yellow light of death) it happens when the GPU and the CPU overheat and you will need to fix this by stopping the heat build up, you can sned it in and they will fix it for you for $130.

Or you can fix it yourself using a good PS3 Repair guide in under an hour!

Cpu Upgrade on sr1750nx

The SR1750nx's has Socket 939 on it's mainboard, which isn't compatible with the X2 4050e, because it's for Socket AM2. The fastest processor you can put in it is the "Athlon 64 FX-60" I think, but I don't know if you can buy it anymore.

Cant find the right manual for motherboard

You can always power off the computer and remove one of the memroy sticks and it should be labeled I.E. DDR,DDR2 followed by the speed, I.E. 333 or 400 or 800.

Sometimes the manufacturer puts the mother board model number printed on the circuit board in big letters. regular DDR cost more than DDR2 and you cant fit DDR2 in regular DDR memory slots.

You can pull out one of the memroy sticks and take it with you to a store and tell them you want that kind but a bigger stick, like a Gig stick and the fastest you can get.

The processor will have its model number printed on it, the socket the CPU goes into will have a number like 756 ot A2 or similar, that will tell you what type of chips it supports.

If you can get the model number of the mother board you can go online to the manufacturers web site and try downloading the specs/manual.

Good luck
