Won't start says windows did not shut down normally tries to start but comes back to same screen

Could be dozens of things. This usually happens when there is a crash (blue screen) during boot up. Did you recently do any upgrades? Is this Windows XP or Vista? Try starting in Safe Mode if you can. The possible fixes include doing a CHKDSK (check disk), rolling back to older drivers, or a repair install of the OS.

Blank screen, error code;0f00c.

The error you appear to be getting during diagnostics should not be related to the computer not starting. The error you are referencing has to do with a blank CD not being in the CD/DVD drive during that part of the test.
I ran the diagnostics again with a blank cd in the drive and I recieved error code 1000-0146.

While installing windows xp monitor went blank, cd started to blink and would not open. I was useing a crt monitor at the time due to the fact thats alli had. HELP, what's wrong

Turn off the computer. Try unseating and reseating the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. After each reseat of the memory try turning on the computer and see if you get video back on the screen.

If not then try another monitor. If all that doesn't get video back on the screen then the motherboard is bad in the computer.

OS will not initialize, cd/dvd-rom not accessible in Dos.

I would re-format the hard drive. Then install your main OS such as XP or 98. ( Best to do XP first). Then during installation you can set up your partitions or use Partition Magic.

Then you will have other partions to load other operationg systems. One OS in each different partition.

Then use Acronis Disc Director. On startup Acronis loads a screen and lets you choose what OS you want to use. Just click the icon and away you go.

I have xp, windows 98, and Dos 6.0 on my system in three different partitions.

Good luck

Cannot reinstall new os, seem my hard drive is not detected by os

I hope its not Vista os, because if the driver is not in its database, it does not accept any new driver. Install XP first and run the Vista Upgrade adviser from microsoft to check whether your PC hardware will run Vista....sodeep

Blank screen, can only start programms by task manager

Try to boot Vista into Safe Mode. Tap the F8 Key right after you turn on the computer until you get the Advanced Boot Up Menu
and use the keyboard arrow keys to select Safe Mode. The next screen may ask you to select your operating systm. Select Vista, not the Recovery Console.

Does your task bar and icons appear in safe mode? If so, it might be one of your start up programs that is failing and causing explorer.exe to fail during normal boot-up into Windows and not allowing your taskbar and icons to appear. Click Start and type in msconfig and hit enter then click the Start Up tab and look at all the programs that start up when Vista is starting up. Do Not uncheck anything in the list that you do not recognize as you may uncheck drivers or Vista starting programs that you computer needs to start up Vista properly. Google anything you don't recognize and uncheck any Start Up programs you do not need to start when Vista boots up, like Quicktime player or Adobe Reader for example. (This would also help your boot up time into Vista)

Sounds like explorer.exe crashed. Try opening up the Task Manager again, and Click File > New Task and type in explorer.exe. See if the task bar and your desktop icons appear.

If they appear for a brief moment then disappear again, the Windows explorer.exe is corrupted. Explorer.exe will try to start and then fail again. You may need to use System Restore to bring your computer back to a date and time when the computer was working properly, before the Vista update.

I've got a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX and am trying to install latest VISTA drivers for it. During the installation program the screen changes resolution then I get black screen, can't start up in normal...

you must first uninstal the old driver then turn off pc install the new card, then reboot as the blank screen means that the pc is starting up with the old driver and cannot apply it to your new card.

Your hardware wil be found and you will be prompted to install driver cd.

Black screen

Is your HDD LED flashing? -Try pressing F8 on startup to show the boot menu option of your OS if it is Windows. If it does appear use Safe Mode first. If not successful try re-installing your OS.
