Question about Apple iPod nano 3rd Generation

Ipod Nano 3rd silver

Long story short, my son's Ipod went through the washer. We dried it out and eventually it did start working again. This was several months ago. The Ipod has died again. I figured the warranty was void as soon as it hit the spin cycle so it has been dismantled. Here are the symptoms. Gray screen with a horizontal black line going through the middle of the screen. When tried to reset, it beeps twice and then nothing. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it worth fixing? Thanks...

Push center and menu buttons as you keep it connected to the computer charger. That will hard reset the ipod. If it doesn't respond to the hard reset it is more likely you have motherboard issue. You can try to open it and clean the corroded parts on the logic board. If that doesn't help, there are logic boards available on ebay, there is a ipod repair guide that will show you how to open your ipod replace the logic board.

The issue here is that you may have damage to the motherboard from the water. The water can not only short out motherboard components but it can also start to oxidize on the surface. In some cases, these units are recoverable but we would need to inspect the board under a scope and try and clean the contacts.

Ipod nano went thru washer, now won't work

I did the exact same thing to my iPod nano 3rd gen. I discovered it by the noise it made in the dryer when it fell out of the pocket. Clack! Clack! It seemed dead, but it made a full recovery. What I did was put it on the dashboard of my car for a couple of sunny days to dry out, recharged it, and it was fine. If you have particularly hard water, maybe you'd want to try dipping it in some distilled water just to get rid of any mineral residue before drying it out. I'm impressed with how tough these dudes are. Good luck.

My ipod nano chromatic ha water damage from the washer

Sometimes if you leave it sit for several days or so it will dry out completely and start to work again. I don't recommend charging it or plugging it in for several days or so as if there is still water in it, it may fry some of the chips. It may be beyond repair though.

Wash and dry ipod 3rd gen

Other people have dried out their mp3 players and got it to work sporadically, but the water damage is irreversible. Call Apple and tell them that it just won't work - don't give them the details of how it got there.

New Nano Video Ipod

There is a way to open it up but it's not easy. You need an ipod openening tool or other very thin but sturdy object (guitar picks work well also). You slide the pick or tool in between where the case front and back meet and twist to open it up. you will have to do this all along one side. When you get it opened up enough it wil just pop open. You might be able to find an ipod repair shop in your area that would open it for you for no charge. Putting it back together is easy, just snap the front and back together again.
