Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Have a 10 year old GE profile side by side refrigerator that has a puddle (2-3oz) of water about once or twice per week comming from back bottom. I have checked the drain in the freezer section about 1.5' up from the back and water flows to bottom evaporator pan. However, when I check pan other times it is dry. I can only see part of the evaporator pan when I take off fan blade so I am not sure if there is other items that flow to that pan or it that side under the frezer is filled with junk? Since GE does not provide system diagrams other than electrical it is not easy to trouble shoot. Coule use help. Jim

The drain is clogged. Remove the bottom bin out of the freezer. Once done you should see a trough at the back. This trough will be filled with ice, remvoe the ice. Then you have to clear the drain. The best way I know of to do this is to force hot water down the drain with a turkey baser untill water flows freely. Then mix baken soda with water and pour it down the drain. http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-leaking.html

Water is leaking out from the bottom of the freezer

Below the freezer coil is a drain trough. Sounds like it is frozen. Use a hair drier to melt it and poor baking soda with warm water down it.

GE Profile leaking onto floor

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the cover underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

OK, Have a look (if you can) and see if one of the water jets might be broken, or if there might be a defect in the tray. I can't help any further i'm afraid.

Water in bottom of refrigerator coming from freezer (not really sure of the exact model as I'm not home to double check).

If water appears on the floor in front of the refrigerator once or twice a day, it could be due to a clog in the defrost drain tube. The usual evidence of a clogged drain in a side-by-side refrigerator is ice under the bottom basket in the freezer compartment, in addition to a puddle of water on the floor.
