Question about HP Photosmart 8250 InkJet Printer

HP Photosmart 8250 is printing colors all wrong. I've replaced ink cartridges, cleaned print heads, etc. etc... nothing is working! :(

This doesn't work... I can't calibrate b/c the task requires you to "pick the colored square that most closely matches the background"... I'll attach what I scanned in.. As you can see, the first block has a WHITE background, so none of the bluish-gray boxes are anywhere close to that. On the bottom, there's a blue background with black and grey squares. Not even close.

I've cleaned the printheads a few times and have all genuine HP ink cartridges.

I've attached another scan in case this is helpful. As you can see, in the middle of the page there are 6 blocks of color. Since the ink is so bad you can hardly read it but it says..."The following test pattern below should be a set of 6 color bars without any streaks or missing bars. Perform a clean print head routine if the test pattern exhibits white streaks or any missing bars."

As you can see there are TONS of streaks and missing bars.

The first one is supposed to be black (which you can see is a streaky light blue)

The second one is supposed to be yellow (which you can see is a white with a couple thin yellow lines)

    The third is Lt cyn

    The fourth is Cyan

The fifth is Lt Magenta (black with green lines and missing ink - no magenta to be found)

The six is Magenta (looks magenta with black bars)

Hi. Did you see the additional post I sent? I'm still not able to print correctly. Are you able to help or should I look for someone else? Thank you very much (I am new to this FixYa service and not sure of proper etiquette!)

First check the print settings and verify whether the "Managed by Application" on the Color tab is selected or not, if it's selected, deselect it or if it's not selected, select it and apply the changes then try again.

If this doesn't seem helpful, remove all the cartridges (ink tanks), remove the Printhead unit and dip it in a bowl of warm water and leave it for about an hour so that clogged/dried ink or mixed up ink stuck on the nozzles will be cleaned [if it's not cleaned at one go, you can change the water several times], you can use a soft brush to clean them (should be cleaned very gently, otherwise you might damage them, if you are not sure, don't use a brush, simply use a tong and wave it through the water). After it's cleaned, leave it outside to dry and then reinstall it.

Clean all the nozzles of the ink tanks (cartridges) using a cotton swap (bud) dampen with cleaning solution (if you don't have a cartridge cleaning kit, don't use any other solution like acetone or alcohol etc.. you better use WATER)... Please do this with care, otherwise you might damage the nozzles (irrepairable).

After everything is done, reinstall them and try again.

It's also important to update the Printer's Drivers to the latest updated version, you can download the driver form here (click here). Please note : Before you reinstall, Uninstall the currently installed drivers/softwares completely from your computer, otherwise it will not help doing so..

I couldn't get any picture or video tutorial for your model or similar models...I am sorry for that..

Reinstall all the ink tanks and try again.

Let me know if the problem persists.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi,

Please follow the below mentioned steps.

Step 1: Check the ink cartridges HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. If the ink cartridges have been refilled, try replacing them with genuine HP ink cartridges. Step 2: Check ink levels If the print defect is minor, it might be caused by reserve mode operation. When the printer runs out of some colors, it can continue printing using remaining inks, but print quality may be affected. If cyan, magenta, or yellow is out, the printer can print only in grayscale. Replace any empty print cartridges. To check ink levels, examine the ink drop icons on the color graphics display. HP Photosmart 8250 is printing - c00368083.jpg

  • Each icon corresponds to the cartridge that is the color of the icon. The icons are also in the same order, from left to right, as the cartridges in the printer.
  • If an icon is empty, you may need to replace the corresponding cartridge soon.
  • The printer cannot read ink levels in non-HP, refilled, and remanufactured cartridges. A question mark instead of an icon displays for these cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty.
For a larger display of ink levels, click the Right Select Photos arrow. c00368084.gif 1 - Right Select Photos arrow The ink levels display in larger format, with the icons corresponding to each cartridge. Figure 1: Ink levels Step 3: Calibrate color If the cartridges have not been refilled and none are empty, try calibrating the color.
  1. Open the printer Toolbox :
    1. Open HP Solution Center (click Start , then All Programs , then HP , then HP Solution Center ).
    2. If you have more than one printer installed, make sure to select the correct printer tab in HP Solution Center .
    3. Click Settings .
    4. Click Print Settings .
    5. Click Printer Toolbox .
  2. On the Device Services tab, click Calibrate Color , then follow the onscreen instructions. The procedure takes about two minutes and requires two sheets of paper.
Step 4: Clean the printhead If the steps above have not help, clean the printhead.
  1. Open the All-in-One Toolbox :
    1. Open HP Solution Center (click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center ).
    2. If you have more than one All-in-One installed, make sure to select the correct All-in-One tab in HP Solution Center .
    3. Click Settings .
    4. Click Print Settings .
    5. Click Printer Toolbox .
  2. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , and then follow the onscreen instructions. Three levels of cleaning are available.
Step 5: Service the product If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product. Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

I've got a somewhat similar problem with an 8250 which doesn't print even with $60 of new cartridges. Something about air in the lines which with this particular model may require 'startup cartridges' which are reportedly shipped with a new printer. HP's solutions haven't been at all helpful; my solution would be to trash this printer and buy another brand.

Won't Print Color Ink

INK PROBLEM
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

I have an HP Photosmart C3180 printer color ink issue. Instead of printing yellow its printing pink. I've cleaned the head multiple times and the ink cartridge is brand new. Please advise. Thanks!

If what you're saying is still the result after cleaning everything up, there must already be something wrong with the printhead because the printheads are the one's that are responsible for the mixture of the ink cartridges.
Try calling HP Tech Support. They might still be able to replace the printheads for you.

Remove the magenta cartridge, and try cleaning the head with alcohol, maybe with a small paint brush or an acid brush. It sounds like ink has dried and plugged up that head.

My HP Photosmart 8250 is not printing any black ink even when the cartridge is full.

If this is happening after the cartridge was just replaced then make sure you do not have any flags setup in the color settings page in printer preferences that is not letting it use the black ink cartridge. eg. gray scale using color only etc.

Try the Clean cartridge function in the service menu in printer preferences and see if the test page comes ok.
