What is a chocolate fountain machine? Someone suggested that I hire one for my daughter's 18th birthday next month.

Chocolate fountain machines have become very popular lately at parties and events. They are basically fountains that have liquid chocolate running out of the spouts. Usually fruit, marshmallows etc are placed on sticks nearby and guests can dip their chosen item into the flowing chocolate. It's pretty cool.

I am looking for the recipe for the chocolate fountain. What is the ratio of chocolate chips to oil?

You can buy special chocolate fountain chocolate to use, or you can just use standard milk / dark chocolate chips and add 1/2 a cup of good vegetable or coconut oil for every pound (16 Oz) of chocolate.

There are many different variations on the recipe and you can Google CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN RECIPE to get an idea of the many different options which include adding cream or liqueur.

Basically you just want to melt your chocolate on the stove in a double boiler if possible.
If you use a microwave, then carefully heat only on low power and stir after every minute.

Pour the melted chocolate into the fountain base and turn on the fountain for a few minutes. Then shut it off for a minute to allow it to vent any air and restart.

You can always add a little more oil to the recipe if the chocolate does not flow properly.

Good luck and enjoy.

I just purchased a chocolate fondue fountain without a manual. where do I put the chocolate? How long does it take to heat?

Put the chocolate in the bottom. Read the box to make sure you don't have to use a specific kind of chocolate. Depending on how much chocolate you are heating and whether it is already liquid when cold would determine heating time but usually 15-20 minutes would be the minimum time.

Hi! I lost the instructions and wanted the recipe for chocolate fondue for about 60 people. Thanks so much for your help.

With out without a fountain this link is pretty good. FYI One Pound of chocolate Fondue will feed 10 people grazing. So for 60 people you will need at least 6 lbs of dark chocolate.
Link:
http://www.ellenskitchen.com/bigpots/plan/chocfont.html

From the linked page....

MICROWAVING THE CHOCOLATE Pre-melting your chocolate or sauce recipe in a microwaveable zip-lock bag speeds the maintenance of the fountain. The chocolate MUST be placed in the microwave in the bag with the proper amount of oil added (a good estimate is 1/2 cup of vegetable oil per 5 pounds of high quality chocolate) on medium power for 3 minutes. Then the chocolate should be stirred by smashing the bag around- hold in oven gloves, it will be hot- or with a rubber scraper and put back in the microwave. Microwave again on low power for an additional one to three minutes. Carefully pour the melted chocolate into the preheated fountain, preheated 3-5 minutes at 100 °.
Any blackening of the chocolate hints that it is burnt, if this occurs, discard it. It will spoil the entire batch.

Check out the fruits recommendations of the same link too!

Buy your fountain chocolate from www.wesellchocolate.com. It is an imported Belgian Chocolate that comes in 2.5lb tubs that you put in the microwave and don't need to add any oil. Very easy and delicious!
