Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

When you power on the (apple) or (mac os x) iBook model#A1005 ( NTBOE004010) a screen comes on and ask for username and password. i purchased this computer ibook second hand so how do i proceed from here...

Hi there,
Congratulations on your new computer! What you need to do is reinstall the operating system, after wiping the computer:
  1. Turn the Mac on and insert the restoration disk that came with it (If you don't have one then you'll need to get one, try ebay or amazon, or an Apple store).
  2. Turn the Mac off with the disk still in
  3. Re-boot it, holding down the C key. This will boot up from the CD, and hopefully you'll be able to re-install Mac OS X, which will give you a working, clean machine.
When you get to step 3, you should have a menu bar at the top. Select Utilities -> Disk Utility. Select the computer's hard drive, and 'Erase'. Call the new partition whatever you like, but make sure it uses Mac OS Journaled Extended file system. Follow the instructions and you'll have a machine like new!
If you don't already have an install disk, watch out - you can only install Mac OS up to Mac OS 10.5 on your iBook. Don't buy a 10.6 (Snow leopard) disk, as it won't install!
Hope that helped, good luck!

I try to unlock my i book with the code but my screen wont turn black

Thank you for contacting Fixya Support, I am glad to assist you.

I am not sure exactly what you mean when you mention the screen "won't turn black" after you try to unlock your iBook.

So to at least point you in the right direction, if you are unable to access the desktop within your iBook, then click the link I have provided below, in order to reset the user administrator password for your iBook:
Resetting Administrator Password in Mac OS X

Try this procedure, but keep in mind, in order to perform this process, make sure you have your Mac OS X restore or Mac OS X installation disk.

Let us know if this helps you gain access back into your iBook desktop, if this is what the issue is, based on your initial question.

Regards,

I don't know the administrator password for my iBook G4

I don't know if this will help much, but you need to get your hands on a copy of either an iBook system disc or a retail Tiger OS disk. (Disclaimer: Please use legal copies.).

With the disc in the drive, restart the machine and hold down C to boot from the disc. There's an option to reset the admin password when booted from the disc. It may be in a menu (top of screen). Reset the admin password and you'll be all set. If you don't have a Tiger disc, you may be able to get one inexpensively from eBay or wherever.

This brings up something I've noticed helping people with problems, most don't know where their system discs are (or never got them). You'll likely need a system disc eventually. Friendly advice: Keep track of them!

I forgot my administrator password for my mac g3

If you are running OS X put the appropriate system disk in the disk drive. Boot up using the c key. Once booted go up to the file menu and go to the reset password menu and reset your password.

Is it possible to reset G4 ibook, without any disk?

hi,
Here are the steps how you can reset the user / password in your notebook.

1. Reboot
2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
mount -uw /
    • rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    • shutdown -h now
  1. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you're good to go again!

Apple ibook g4 came wihout restore disks for drivers and operating system. The operating systm is mac osx 10.4.11 and the drivers are:- Audio= Texas instruments CD burner= Matshit cd-rw cw-8124...

apple doesnt need drivers to be installed seperatly, the osx discs have them all and installs them as you install your OSX. you need to buy the discs from ebay for your laptop like search, (ibook g4 13" osx ) and do a fresh installation

Apple help

If you entered a password hint when you created the user account on your computer, then you can view the hint after entering an incorrect password. If not, and you have your original Apple restore disks, then you can reset your password by starting up from the cd. Put the CD into the drive and restart the computer by holding down the C key on your keyboard. When the computer restarts, click the Installer menu item at the top of the screen, then click Reset Password. Set the new password , then restart and voila, you're done.
